I’m cautiously optimistic about this one. I loved GW2, even though I haven’t kept up with it in a while, so I’m interested to see what they are planning for the sequel. Orr also seems like a fun setting. I live the descriptions in GW2 of Orr pre-sinking. (Also, the gods (presumably) saying “we promise you magic” is funny, considering how horribly that ends in this case.)

However, GW2 is dropping in style, and I love the painterly style of had. I’m not seeing that same style in this trailer. It looks kinda generic, tbh. (The design of the mount is stellar, though.)

Also, being set in the past means that the Sylvari don’t exist yet, and the Charr are still the great enemy, so those two are out. We seem to have gained Kodan as a playable race, though (probably means no Norn as well, since they would have quite a bit of overlap). Also, this seemed like the perfect chance to give the people the Tengu they have wanted, but payable Tengu remains a dream, it seems.

I’m hyped for this for the most part. But you pointed out what I felt but couldn’t put my finger on: the visual style does look kinda generic in the trailer. I hope that they evolve this into a more unique or stylized style.

Perhaps Tengu is left so that it can be part of an extension when everything else is properly set

I’m a huge fan. But this isn’t making me throw away my legendaries to start anew.

They already stated they will continue simultaneous development of all 3 games. Plus Anet genre hops each game, 3 is going to be more action adventure, so no reason to stop playing 1 or 2 even after 3 hits it’s stride.

Oh damn??? Looks like MMORPGs aren’t dead after all. I would have loved to see some gameplay but it’s nice knowing there’s an honest to god new mmo being made by a big studio.

I want to get back into it, but isn’t it end of life? Wasn’t the last expansion the final one?

Same with gw2 and wow but we’re talking 21, 16, and 14 year old games here lol, every “major” new MMO since those 3 has died… it’s not exactly inaccurate to call the genre dead.

Shout-out the return of Gloria Victis next week too, best pvp MMO I’ve ever played, the sieges are insane.

The only thing that was interesting thru the whole show to me (or at least not monumentally disappointing-- looking at you SF6). I played 2 for a long time in the beginning. Definitely interested in seeing how they think they’re “revolutionizing” mmos.

Also, blizz needs competition so double yay.

This smells like more gw2 Vs gw1 which is what they should be aiming for. Real shame

They said movement and exploration of gw2 dialed up to 11 with the larger more open skill system of gw1 but it’s action combat. Basically sounds like they’re combining the best parts of both games and then leaning into the newer action MMO style combat instead of tabclicker.

ArenaNet are infamous for their claims Vs what ships. While I’m hopeful, I doubt it will come to pass.

Several thousand hours in gw2. Really liked it.

I hope they keep the stuff I liked. Solo friendly but other people are around to casually join up or whatever. No level grinding. No gear grind.

Of course arenanet are in the best position to make a new mmo, I can’t wait. Gw2 made me get into illustration.

I can see why. The loading/travel screen art blew me away on release and still does now.

I don’t often get my hopes up for new games any more, but I kinda have for this.

Hopefully they offer a collector’s edition with physical goods again. I did that for GW2 just to have something on my shelves after moving.

I loved 1, and I thought 2 was a very good evolution of that. I’m excited to see where 3 goes. I know a lot of people didn’t like the Living Story stuff, but I thought it was good, if a bit long winded. I’d like to see a refined version of that. I’d also like to see a little more team play. I don’t necessarily want a full TANK/DPS/SUPPORT role designation, but I would like to have the ability to lean a little more into those archetypes, all of the classes in 2 felt like DPS mains with a little other flavor sprinkled in.

Since this is set in Orr, I’m assuming it’ll be another time jump, as it looks quite different!

I wonder what their plans are for GW2 to make sure certain content remains accessible with a dwindling population. Fingers crossed for some kind of heroes system like in GW1!

They say in the website that it takes place over 1000 years before gw1. I was looking over the known timeline a little, and I can’t help but notice that about that long ago is when the god war happens, the one which banished abaddon.

Also worth noting that it looks like abaddon is one if the six gods shown (also potentially dhuum instead of grenth?). If that second one is true it would put us a few decades before the god war happens, which sounds plausible?

A prequel seems like it would be unnecessarily putting themselves in a narrative box.

It would be far more interesting to me to either do a time jump forward, or go someplace else. They have the mists in the setting already to explore.

Sounds like this is taking place before the exodus of guman gods - so quite some time back and we don’t have that much lore for those times afaik. I bet there are lots of interesting stories to tell.

Makes sense though. The lowland Kodan branched off the last dragon rise, no? So makes sense they are around.

I was more thrown off by the Asura, personally.

considering Orr is destroyed and the gods show multiple who are dead, its definitely a prequel.

This may put us timeline wise into The Guild Wars the games are named after.

I will miss sylvari though, not many fantasy races I love as much as I do sylvari. Maybe some timeline nonsense in gw2 will give me sylvari.
