They’re not though. They’re some kind of independent territory of Denmark and they have special trading privileges with the EU, but a simple Google search will tell you they’re not part of it.
Under Denmark’s protection (whatever that is worth) yes, but is, for example, Bulgaria going to militarily support a non-member independent nation? Maybe. They’re not obligated to.

As an independent country it would be at the mercy of everyone else and forced to make really shitty deals for even that basest necessities.
Well if Greenland is independent, and not member of EU, Trump will annex it. I am convinced of it.

Yup, but an attack on Greenland (for an example) is an attack on the Kingdom of Denmark. And thus is treated as such.
Basically, Greenland gets to run itself, for the most part. But anything external goes through DK.

They are part of Denmark and therefor goes under it’s protection.
