  • No, a good example would have been the Frelimo fight against the Portuguese colonialists in Mozambique that resulted in a declaration of independence and the creation of a new state.

The example of Zimbabwe is is somewhere between that and the relatively reformist transition in South Africa, as Rhodesia (in agreement with their government) briefly reverted to being a British colony on paper to conduct elections which the previous rebel forces won and then formally declared independence from the UK.

I find it highly slanderous to be labled a “Rhodesia lover” for simply stating historical facts. Rhodesia was a racist apartheit state I am absolutly opposed to.

  • This sounds like your IP was listed on some automatic threat vector RTBL that we subscribe to at firewall level. This can sometimes happen with Tor exit nodes and some shady VPNs, and not really something we want to change, sorry.

In addition SLRPNK uses Anubis to block AI scrapers and that can sometimes cause problems with older or niche browsers, but this would be a problem regardless of the IP.

  • Be careful with powering HDDs on and off. That is actually the operation that puts the most strain on them AFAIK. Sadly there is no good rule of thumb when it does more harm than good, but I would guess if you turn it on more than once a week, you are probably doing more harm than good compared to just letting in run. Many people even intentionally turn off sleep-mode in “green” drives so that they don’t shut down automatically.

  • I find XMPP much more useful for day-to-day communication with people I know. Matrix has more IRC like public channels, but only a few are sufficiently active compared to Discord or even IRC.

But running an XMPP server is also extremely hassle free and uses little server resources, while running a Matrix server is quite involved and will likely need a beefy dedicated server just for it alone.

  • Many things are very similar on Linux compared to Windows (e.g. Browsing, Steam). One big difference is that people prefer using package managers to install software (instead of downloading and installing it manually).

This. Especially for drivers, always use the package manager of your distro and do not attempt to manually install Nvidia drivers you downloaded from their website.
