An ice cream scooper from the 1940’s with a mechanical scoop releaser and a bread knife from the 80’s, both random bits that were passed down the family. Nothing special, just very well made tools. Also a Hala desk lamp circa 1950.

My aunt has a 40’s era sunbeam stand mixer that works perfectly… just needs a new electrical chord. Most things are made to be replaced now. Those not so much.

My sister in law got my mil’s KitchenAid stand mixer that my wife carved her brother’s name into when she was a kid. Works like a champ.

Oh yeah I have a monstrous Vorwerk juicer that, judging from the design, is from the 1950s or 60s. Works perfectly.
I never had to fix anything for the over 20y I had it.

ice cream scooper from the 1940’s

      I’d say that is special

    The house itself: 1880

    KitchenAid stand mixer

    Marble base metal stand lamp

woolen poncho, bought for $20 at a craft fair in 2004

    multiple dressers and bedframes

    multiple vintage SciFi hardback books

wooden chairs salvaged from the University of Chicago Harper Library

    homemade quilts

    Soccer jersey from 2004

duct tape wallet assembled in 2003

cardboard box for Arby’s curly fries, collected from a dumpster in 2002 to pack favorite Lego builds for storage in the summer before going to college, plus the Legos themselves

…huh. I’m genuinely surprised at how many things in my home aren’t twenty years old.

Same here, it would be quicker to say what’s newer than that. All the new shit broke so there’s not that much left.

The bed that my father has built for my wife and me some 30 years ago. My father sleeps in his grave now. My wife and I still sleep in this bed.

I have swiss army knife, it’s 19 years old so not quite 20, i use it everyday. I take it on every longer journey and there’s virtually no situation where it doesn’t help in some way… even if it’s the silly toothpick, I’m always happy to have it.

It’s wild to me that some people have space for a grand piano in their house! I don’t think it would fit in any room we have. Heck, it wouldn’t even fit through the door to get it inside in the first place.

Clay bowl I made in high school. It’s where pocket coins accumulate until I dump them into the machine at the bank that puts them back into my account.

Damn straight. Still rocking the Whirlpool dishwasher that came with the house in 1992. Unfortunately the Whirlpool oven range that came with the house is barely functional. The oven still works, but I can’t get the pilots to ignite on the stovetop. The Whirlpool dryer still works effectively, though it could be better.

Currently remodeling my house, so I’m definitely planning to upgrade to a Whirlpool washer-dryer combo, and I’ll likely get a Whirlpool dual-fuel oven range. And if push comes to shove, I might get a new Whirlpool dishwasher.

I mean, unless Whirlpool’s products were hit with the enshittification stick…

do I have bad news for you.

do your due diligence and read bad reviews for any models you’re looking at buying. no company will purchase bad reviews and you can clearly tell if the reviewer is an absolute walnut that couldn’t pour piss from a boot.

usually I’ll find a model that has bad reviews from a bunch of buffoons then check out the good reviews from multiple locations, the more obscure the source the better. bestbuy.com? no thanks. applianceguyaskingwhy.com? that’s a winner.
