I tried to play through it recently. Game was OK, but fuck their stupid launcher. I want nothing to do with GTAO, so why do I have to load into its menu every single time I go to play the game and suffer through a bunch of ads to play a fucking single player game I paid for? I uninstalled about ten hours in. I might pirate it. It’s probably a better experience.
I think GTA 6 will be an outstanding game, but I also think it will be Rockstar’s greediest release to date. I will make sure to consider everything before I buy it.
As greedy as GTA V was with its multiplayer, Rockstar has a history of releasing a good single player base game before they start with that, and looking as GTA VI leaked map, I don’t see that changing now. It’ll definitely be nothing more than a single player experience for me though.
Plus, were might have to wait one or two years to play it on PC, especially on Linux, so there’s a lot of time for considerations…
I guess I don’t understand. I got V and paid literally nothing past that.
The experience was great. No one has to buy shark cards or whatever the hell they are.
The problem with V for me was that they released content for GTA Online for years and completely ignored singleplayer. So many heists, weapons, vehicles, outfits, and game mechanics that would have been awesome to try solo, but were only available with a damn internet connection and in a world with other players. Thankfully mods fixed some of that. But it’s not the same because you mostly have to spawn things in with a cheat menu.
Gotta love Steven Ogg.
Coming up on 14 years for Skyrim.
They’ve both been propped up by pay-to-win bullshit online games that have diluted the formula. I remember when GTA V was new (ish) and while the controls took some getting used to, and some of the minigames were bullshit (Rockstar games have wonky controls), the game was fun as hell. Zero interest in the online stuff. It never appealed to me. I did try Elder Scrolls Online, and also Fallout 76. This online shit makes them money, it’s a surprise they’re even bothering with a GTA VI. The next GTA Online is really what they should be focused on (though I’ll always root for the single player games). After the last couple Fallouts and Starfield, I don’t even have any hope for Elder Scrolls VI. GTA VI at least looks like it might actually be good. But screw paying $100 for it.
I’m out of the loop with GTA VI, but the last I knew of it the only thing they’d released was a cinematic, non-gameplay trailer. Have they released gameplay now?
In two months Skyrim will be 14.
And don’t get me started on F-Zero.
6 is never going to live up to the hype and will be riddled with micro transactions and GaaS shoved up its ass.
Stop paying attention to what the big corporations are pumping out. Go play something made my people that give a shit about the game and not the “potential revenue” it might create.
III, VC, SA, IV and even V are some of the best games of all time. No need for new ones
Really aren’t. GTA has had the most dated mission structure since part 3.
Their Gangs and crimes stories are also weak.
SA was the only one that had something to say.
I am speaking by number of copies sold. Actually valuing the games, what do you think is the most solid GTA?
If you’re just talking about number of copies sold, using the term “best” is confusing
You’re right. I edited my original comment
Glad you’re getting upvoted for this. Every time I mention how outdated RDR2 felt at launch, I get downvoted. But it’s true. For a game about an outlaw, you sure have to follow a lot of rules to play the game as the developers intended.
Man, I tried multiple times to get into RDR2. I really want to like it, and I love RDR. But my god that game feels like a job with all the small things you need to remember to do.
Man, even the gun system annoyed me. I’m fine with them having like 4 slots or whatever it was for weapons, but I remember so many times riding to a mission on my horse, selecting the guns I wanted to use and after like 50 feet Arthur would decide “welp, I’m not using these guns, better shove em back in my horse” leadong me to not having a gun ready at the start of a mission. I think that was the straw the broke the camels back for me, just hold the guns I selected Arthur.
Couldn’t agree more, the weapon system is incredibly frustrating too. I solved that problem simply by using a trainer to mod all the weapons to have the same stats. That way I can just use whatever gun Arthur grabs and not worry about it.
Yeah for a “dynamic open world” it sure consists of a bunch of linear missions and rigged structure.
Thats a classic video and definitely one of the first I’ve seen outside of Zero Punctuation that has been honest about the GTA games.

Honestly they could have released single player DLC for V and made a load of money without having to even develop VI
The multiplayer will be like that.
But I’m not here for that, and Rockstar and Naughty Dog are in the “haven’t let me down yet” club.
I liked GTA V, but after finishing it I drove around for a few hours and the never touched it again. I’m not really sure why.
I still go back to Vice City and San Andreas, somehow these worlds are just more fun. But like I said, I’m not sure why…
The graphics in 5 are great, the sound is great, but something is missing…
Because once you finished the story there’s really not much sidemission for you to play, and the world suddenly feel very empty without the excellent characters. I quit the same way.
I’ve lived in the same GTA house longer than I’ve lived in any real home.
The cars I own in GTA V I’ve had longer than the current car that’s sitting in my driveway.
I pick up GTA V as an Epic store free game of the week. It was the gateway drug the sent me down the dark and seedy parth of collecting every free Epic game for evermore. I have Hundreds of games I will never play but I keep on collecting them. It is my vice, my drug.
Digital hoarding! Welcome to the club.
Free games from epic games store is NOT hoarding. You don’t really own them. The minute epic decides they are done with that store, you are out of luck and all your games.
Getting free games via Amazon Prime from GOG however would be actual digital hoarding, since you can download and save the installer of every game there.
Oh, I get those ones as well and…
Tomorrow is free game day!!
12 years ago? But I haven’t finished GTA IV yet. Time goes so fast :(
Probably I will play it only when I retire…
You expect to retire? Ooooh, fancy!
Retire, too old to be hired, tomayto tomahto.
Hey cousin! Let’s go bowling
Meanwhile Skyrim came out the week my daughter was born, and she’s in high school now. We still don’t have a new elder scrolls
Have you tried having another kid?
But what avout TESO?
Don’t you put that evil on me!
Yeah, that is crazy to me. I understand them wanting to make other games in between and that making those games takes a few years each. Rationally, I’m on board with the decision-making and the math that leads to this.
But that the result is a generation who didn’t have an Elder Scrolls part released in their childhood, that still feels like far too grand of a concept. What are you talking about, there’s a new Elder Scrolls release every year. Skyrim Remastered, Skyrim Deluxe. Skyrim Limited Edition. Skyrim for Switch. Skyrim Premium Deluxe for Switch, the list goes on.
No… no that’s impossible… fuck. 14 years, huh? I remember it was 11/11/11 and there were ads for it on city buses, and I thought “wow i guess video games are mainstream now”
Its been that long 😅 no way
GTA VI I feel is going to stretch about 4 generations of gaming before ever seeing VII.
GTA V has started in the PS3/360 era, went through the PS4/One era, is sitting in the PS5/X era and we’re now about 2-3 years away from the next gen of gaming to happen.
There’s possibility that GTA VII will come faster. Rockstar does waves on new engine versions. GTA I + II, engine switch, GTA III, VC, SA, engine switch, GTA IV, GTA V, possibly engine switch?, GTA VI, GTA VII? Or some offspin?
Problem is, they smelled online money so dunno.
Scooter brother!
I’m still salty that Rockstar seemingly broke GTA V for Linux on purpose. I poured hours into Online and loved the Community I found, so it’s a real shame they shut out Linux and Steam Deck users for good by adding BattleEye without Linux support. I was pretty much done with the game by then, but that move solidified my personal boycott of Rockstar.
Online ist dead. 5 mins in and I’m getting headshots from a guy across the map with a K:D of 3000:1. Everything online costs real money or endless grind. Waiting for 15 mins in a lobby, only that the host logs out 2 mins into the mission.
GTAO is trash, always has been.
I got plenty of enjoyment out of it for a while before I got bored and the hacking got too bad.
I don’t even care about GTA 6 anymore
Why is this type of comment so popular on Lemmy? We are supposed to hate absolutely anything here for some reason.
I don’t hate everything. I hate the fact that GTA V has been milked for 12 years. I like other stuff. I like Apex Legends. Smash brothers.
Being negative riles people up and earns more updoots
remember: people who have something to complain about will post much more frequently. since the fediverse is smaller, these types of comments are found more frequently
for some reason.
Several reasons, really.
Don’t get it either, maybe it also something to do with lemmys demographic being older. ( I believe that is the case with Mastodon vs. Twitter ) Sure it is sad that the planed single-player content was scraped for multiplayer ( even though i had lots of fun with the multiplayer as well, at least in its early days. ) But why crying about VI when it hasnt been released yet? Just see when it comes out…
Damn we got FenderStratocaster not caring about GTA6 before we got GTA6
Trump’s first and second non-consecutive terms.
#3 is gonna be a doozy if he’s still alive
we’d make a bet. Trumps policies bankrupt 2k or Gta6 comes out
Starting a comment with “#” makes it large, apparently
That’s markdown for you. Increasing the number of #'s decreases the size.

We don’t need to know about the state of your weinor, buddy.
what?
I don’t think you know what grift means.
A group of methods for obtaining money falsely through the use of swindles, frauds, dishonest gambling.
GTA is a crime story video game. “Dishonest gambling” doesn’t mean “gambling I don’t like”. A science-based dragon MMO Kickstarter is a grift. GTA 6 is a video game.
Are you unaware of GTA online? I’m talking about milking gamers for weak content for the next 12 years.
Are you unaware that there’s a component of GTA 6 besides GTA online? Even in the online mode, they’re milking gamers for weak content using regular gambling. A grift would be like a carnival game that appears winnable but actually never is. For your gambling money, you do get “stuff” in GTA 6, even if you or I would consider it a poor value. I don’t know why a shitty online mode would make me want to play a good crime story single player mode less, but the mere existence of the single player mode easily makes it more than “just” that.
Imagine witnessing the evolution of predatory practices in gaming for the past two decades and still arguing in favor of giant corporations.
I just think that if you’re going to call something a grift, it should actually be one, because words have meaning. We can call it all sorts of other things. “Predatory” is a good one. I myself called it “shitty”. That’s not arguing in favor of a giant corporation. You can’t just pick your favorite negative descriptor when it doesn’t apply.
There aren’t any micro transactions in the single player mode. Pretty stupid take.
The multi-player maybe. But they’ve consistently delivered excellent single-player experiences with their flagship titles. GTA 3, VC, SA, IV, and V were all amazing. RDR1 was spectacular, and RDR2 may be the most impressive game I’ve ever played.
At this point, I trust Tockstar to deliver a good single-player game. I don’t really expect much in the way of the quality DLC we got with GTAIV and RDR, but I think the base game will easily be enough for me to justify a purchase.
I’m still gonna wait and see, of course. They’re not getting a pre-order out of me.
I’d agree with everything about the previous games. However, I think they made 10 billion dollars off of GTA online and wouldn’t be surprised if they focus more on that and leave the single player to the wayside.
