The question should be is it beneficial for the EU to have the UK back?
It depends. If they accept to join as any other country (so, Euro, Schengen and so on) why not ? They are just another country. If they still want a special status, they can stay out, nobody miss them.
It would be a huge PR win for sure, and the UK is both a huge economy and has a strong military, so I’d say that it would be a benefit. However it would have to be a willing UK that came back. No point in letting a country that doesn’t want to be in the club back in. I’m thinking the UK should hold a referendum and make it a 2/3 majority vote. Perhaps they should have at least 2 of those, just to make sure.
Yes, of course. It will make life easier for every EU citizen who is living there and every UK citizen living in the EU. Trade will be easier to the benefit of all. And in our current global situation, it also would be great to have one of the worlds biggest militaries with its nuclear weapons back.
Yes, because we’re stronger together, and in the current geopolitical environment that is of even more importance than usual.
The funny thing is that an argument for Iceland to join at this point in time is that they don’t have to share the fishing rights with Britain anymore and technically can keep it that way by blocking future rejoin attempts.
But they will have to share fishing rights with the rest of the EU, which is why it won’t happen.
If the UK did rejoin it would likely be for defence and heavy equipment manufacturing incentives as the USA wanes and the eastern bloc waxes.
