This seems like a classic windows update issue. In fairness to Microsoft it is difficult to prevent bugs when there is a huge install base, with a huge range of hardware, with a huge range of users on different mixes of updates and updating at their own. I personally think that’s totally believable.
I’m a little bit sceptical here - yes, managing that is complicated. But it also is Microsofts fault - managing and constructing updates that work even with different versions or update paths is possible. I really struggle to see how an update could even kill the start menu or Explorer.
We have the same discussion every year and the European Broadcast Union is not restricted to countries in Europe.

I wonder if anyone has experimented with storing those consoles in an oxygen free environment. Sounds crazy, but there are cheap vacuum sealers around and you can easily push some CO2 from a sodastream into those bags. That works with groceries like salats and it might be possible to put a Dreamcast into a vacuum bag, fill it with CO2 and seal it.

It’s totally a problem: If I take a look at my Mastodon account from Pixelfed, there are a lot of screenshots shown and some other random images. Which totally does make sense as I do post stuff like that on Mastodon and screenshots totally make sense there. But if you take them to the center of the stage into a photocentric app, that really does look like shit

Russia is also facing losing their fossil fuel customers. Even if (big if) the war ends today and sanctions are lifted: There will be a some countries and companies buying russian gas and oil, but Europe has now their new LNG terminals with some long term contracts. We are also building renewable energy in a rapid speed and every solar panel and each new wind turbine is producing energy that Russia can’t sell after the war. And that is happening all over the world, which is really bad news for Putins perspective after the war.

I kind of like the idea of a system allowing me to automatically remove clickbait and sensationalism from headlines and replace it with a good summary. But I really hate how Google is pushing that without customization, without consent and in such a crappy state.

That behaviour really, really is shady - contacting random people from not involved departments via LinkedIn is really awful.

I haven’t used an Amiga in several decades and memory is kind of murky. So how does the Amiga approaches drives?

Yeah - there is no way that you are able to raise children or even go to the dentist checkup with such a work schedule. And if such a schedule was implemented, that would be the collapse of everything else. Cinemas, theatres, bars, events, sport clubs and so on.

There are people who need money to pay their rent or buy food. He isn’t saying that he is not trying to leave, but there are good reasons to stick to a bad job while searching for a better one.

Can we agree that reporting around chat control is totally broken? I’ve read so many articles about “ChatControl is coming” , “ChatControl has been defeated”, “ChatControl is back” and now “EU is backing away from ChatControl” that it actually is confusing what is going on. It should be possible to give an overview about an EU legislative process without confusing everybody?

That’s really interesting - there is a lot of talk in Germany currently about the crisis in the car industry. And if you take a look, the big german manufacturers like VW, BMW and Mercedes are selling more cars than last year with a bigger market share.

Most cars (every type) are generally higher than a pedestrian
Yeah and that is because cars got higher and higher. If you stand near a VW Beetle, everyone can see you.

I really fear that they are building the infrastructure for something much worse here: There are web blocks for “illegal” sites like piracy pages currently in place in Germany. You can totally ignore them by changing your DNS and those anti piracy crusaders are currently trying to sue DNS providers. Guess what industry will be pushing when there is a feature available in every OS which can be used to block piracy sites?

I mean, I can see that it is kind of hard to program your own accessibility tools esp. when you’re disabled. But in this case it literally is “Pay money to be spied upon by a ruthless company in bed with the Trump administration” vs. “use this free software that is not spying on you”
(and accessibility on linux is not that bad)

I really do not like such comments. Do free alternatives always have to be better than everything else? Even if people would find out that Facebook was always watching them via their cameras and were selling their nude pictures to the Hezbollah, someone will jump into the comments and say that they can’t use Mastodon, because some bogus reason. Yeah, accessibility could be better, but have you even taken a look at whatever nightmare UIs Microsoft has been pushing for years?

If they are doing it in the UK, they are also doing it in all other european countries

And we here in Germany really did a lot of work remembering and teaching about the crimes of the Nazis. We still have those far right idiots. Switzerland never had a dictatorship and they have far right idiots. Italy has them, France, too. And if you take a look outside of Europe, those far right parties are everywhere. Ignoring Francos crimes is not great, but can’t explain what is happening worldwide

And let’s be honest: Just doing a data protection audit at those 1000-15000 partners would enhance privacy for everyone. Those companies are shady as fuck
Let’s not blame AI for everything: Reddit had a lot of problems before AI became big. Repost bots are so common that you’ll see the same posts over and over again. Some of those twitter screenshots must have been posted hundreds or thousands of times. OnlyFans spam also works without AI. And we have had those bots spamming the same stupid comments before people were even thinking about GPTs.
