China’s LineShine debuts at number one in Top500 – a list sometimes viewed as a national measure of global tech prowess
A supercomputer in China now outranks its US counterparts as the world’s most powerful. It is the first time since 2017 that a Chinese computer has topped a list sometimes viewed as a measure of a nation’s technological prowess.
The LineShine computer in Shenzhen displaced top-ranked US computer El Capitan in the Top500 rankings released on Tuesday. It was LineShine’s debut on the list.
China’s LineShine differs from other high-performance computers in that it runs entirely on conventional computer chips (CPUs), instead of the graphics processors (GPUs), commonly used for AI. It requires about 42.2 megawatts of electricity to operate, according to the list.
…and as long as Americans are up in arms about data centers, we’ll never take the lead ever again.
I should start learning Chinese.

If this is true which it apparently is, it’s incredible, because this should theoretically be next to impossible.
AMD and Nvidia compute units should be pretty superior.A few years back China had the top 3 super computers of the world. But the fast development of AI processors by especially AMD and Nvidia that China was not allowed to have, made it more difficult for China.
I suspect few people will realize how big of an achievement it is for China to take back the crown without the special chips from AMD and Nvidia.
This article has a lot more info:

Well anyways, USA shot themselves in the foot, when they prevented Chinese companies from having high end AMD and Nvidia AI technology. Because now China will just make their own.Indeed. Paradoxically, it was the US’s decision to limit exports of CPUs and GPUs that gave China the push it needed to stop relying on American technology and focus on becoming independent.
China in 2026 is not the same country as it was before. It is now a technological and R&D powerhouse.
China is going to win over usa…
…I mean as the next world dominating superpower.
And with the state of America… It’s kind of feeling like “whatever”.
America flew too close to the sun.
The reason is America didn’t reign in its billionaires like China did. Those narcissistic children destroyed America to gain power over it. They plan to do it across the whole planet unless we stop them.
This is it. China also has billionaires, but they aren’t more powerful than the state.
And they know that.
They use at least a part of their wealth to support their society, cause there’s a realistic danger that they’ll lose it all if they get too cocky.
