A driver in a Tesla vehicle that was allegedly in driver-assist mode crashed into a Texas house Friday night, killing a woman who was inside the home, investigators said.
Aren’t you supposed to still be paying attention in this badly-named mode? What on earth was he doing in order not to notice that he was travelling at sufficient speed to do this?
If people can’t be bothered to RTFM then it’s 100% their fault no matter what it’s called. Unfortunately even if they had called it cruise control plus there would still be dumbasses doing this shit.
There was a recent case Tesla was found partly to blame because the system allegedly didnt work as advertised, but because it also worked in an area it shouldn’t have been enabled in.
The didnt work as advertised part, was the saftey features to avoid the collision with pedestrians on the side of the road didnt work. The car didn’t brake.
Why didnt they work?
The driver had his foot on the accelerator and was looking down because he fumbled his phone. The car actively warns you if you override it with the accelerator that it will not brake.
The driver claims he thought it would still brake even though the car says it wont… he accepted responsibility for the crash.

Where I live people call this “designated driver mode”. So you could probably imagine the number of people here buying them for this reason.
Some blame goes to the false advertising. Not 100% goes to the user.
