Summary

Tesla is struggling to sell its Cybertruck, even after applying discounts of up to $6,000. Inventories are piling up in the U.S. and Canada, with demand falling short of expectations.

The 2025 model qualifies for a $7,500 tax credit, but the 2024 model—still in stock—does not. There are also concerns that the tax credit may soon be eliminated.

Tesla’s goal of producing 250,000 Cybertrucks annually seems unrealistic, and analysts suggest a cheaper single-motor version may be needed to stimulate demand.

The Cybertruck’s hype appears to be fading.

It also has terrible build quality, is almost double the price they said it would be, & does zero things better than any of its competitors. Crazy to think that anyone would prefer to purchase something (or you know, literally anything) other than a cybertruck

The right doesn’t want an ev and the left doesn’t want a car sold by a nazi. The cybertruck doesn’t have mass market appeal as a result. Sure the technofascists love them but you shouldn’t mass produce something when your target customer is Caroline Ellison of all people

I’m the weird one on this. I like the ugly to it. But I’m the weird guy who also liked the Pontiac Aztec. When I saw pictures of it it was the “It’s so ugly it’s endearing.”

Seeing one in real life… my biggest complaint (on looks) is my complaint with all trucks in the US market, it’s too fucking big. If it was the size of a 90s Ranger, I’d love the looks. And admittedly two days ago I saw one that hit exactly all the buttons of the “I like that” looks, and it was done in the wrap with UNSC logos and looked like a Halo Warthog.

Now that I’ve said all the virtues for it I can think of… EVEN IF the swasticar problem wasn’t on it… holy shit if we make it 30 years out it’ll go down in history as one of the worst built cars ever.

He’s already ripping them out of government buildings. An absolute obvious waste of money and time since they are already installed and functional.

Before 2025, I’d agree with you. But it’s tits to the wind these days, and politicians on both sides are bowing to Trump.

It’s similar to the problem AMC had with the Pacer… revolutionary automotive design and in the first year it did amazing! Then, in the next two to three years, demand dropped like a rock. Seemed as though everyone that wanted a car which looked like really nothing else on the road had already bought one in the first year.

Except that, while it was certainly a radical departure from the norm, it was hardly a revolutionary design, and first year sales were terrible. Once the handful of Elon fans with too much money on their hands got their pre-orders, sales were abysmal.

The Cybertruck’s hype appears to be fading.

What hype? The only things it was known for since day one was being horrendously ugly, bad design, bad build, stupidly unsafe… Need to go on?

The thing is more flammable than a Ford Pinto which is the only impressive fact about it.

    What hype?

TBH, it’s gotten a lot of press, much more than most cars, ev’s or not. Much of it negative though, so not calling it hype is valid.

It wasn’t “much of it was negative”, it was “all of it was negative”. I am sure I missed a few news headers but from all the cyber fruck news I’ve seen, not a single one was positive with the single exception being a few idiot owners who actually bought the thing and posted videos about it and even those were mostly negative where they literally sat with a sad face in their car.

If literally 90+% is negative, then no, it’s not a hype.

I see your point. Not sure about the portion of bad vs good, but I’ve seen both, for example about the drive by wire stuff. There was some genuine interest in the CT before we actually got to see how much of a POS it really was.
