I was looking to join up and check out some other fediverse platforms and came across Pleroma. The top instance in terms of users (large user base) is called poa.st . I figured maybe it’d be kinda like Lemmy, but if anything it’s closer to 4chan. I think you’ll get what I mean if you check it out for yourself. Otherwise what’s your experience with Pleroma?

Never used pleroma, but poa.st is a neonazi/fascist instance. Their instance data was leaked a few years ago and just looking at the DMs leaked and the wordcloud it was even more vile than their usual racist posting.

Like 4chan when the racism was mostly in jest and it was full of “interesting” neurodivergent folks or 4chan post 2012-15 when it was just actual racists (boring dummies with hate in their hearts)?

Smaller social platforms are a real mixed bag.

It seems like subsets of some communities occasionally migrate en-masse. In the same way that lemmy had a huge influx of users from reddit at the time 3rd party apps were discontinued - it’s a fairly confined subset of reddit users that ended up here.

Another example is nostr. Seems to be exclusively crypto-twits.

Holy carp, just search for any halfway controversial topic and see the kind of ship that floats there. It’s a shit gyre.
