  • Were you not young before/after the start of the internet? Not trying to be snarky, it’s more trying to understand perspective.

I could have been MAGA, no question. Here’s my anecdote: (edit: too lazy to correct so please don’t pay close attention to the tense of my words here, I was partially speaking from the perspective of being a kid again but I didn’t stay consistent)

    • been a loner irl. Not that many friends
    • most of my friends are online
    • most of my friends say offensive stuff and while I don’t really mean things (at first) I want to fit in
    • this can spiral pretty easily with a bunch of kids. And it did. I’ve said my fair share of atrocious things online that I wish I could take back
    • as a youngster, 20+ years ago, as a loner/nerd if I’m not playing games, I’m (probably) watching YouTube or anime. Rarely hangin with friends
    • now as someone who’s book smart(well, on some things, ofc), but especially at this point has absolutely 0 like street smarts & real people skills? Hooked into conspiracies.

I grew up in a diverse area, so I’ve really never believed in racist stuff. Those kind of conspiracies I used to just handwave the racism stuff away cause it wasn’t the important stuff to me that I did kind of believe in. I literally even used to watch some of Alex Jones conspiracy videos.

Really easy to get lost in this crap as a teenager alone at 4am.

Like I said I grew up in a diverse area, and in one of my first real relationships, I got a lot of pushback about certain things (I was kinda blue lives matter for a bit for example) and when that ended, one of the big things I took from it was I wanted to be a more accepting person, and I’ve been an increasingly-raging leftist ever since.

With the rising loneliness epidemic (which actually extends to both genders - EVERYONE is increasingly isolated) I can only imagine this sort of story is increasingly common. And not everyone comes to the same conclusions about wanting to be more accepting, etc.

I was very lucky to go through those experiences and learn what I did from it. There’s probably another universe where I instead got increasingly angry & further into all those things - from the cruel & crass words to the conspiracies - and am wearing a red hat

🤮🤮 at the thought of that

"I didn’t vote for the lady who wouldn’t commit to stopping Israel (but I knew wouldn’t shred the economy)

even though the alternative was a man very openly supportive of Israel and is now actively deporting pro-Palestine protesters and providing Israel all the weapons it needs

'Cuz obviously both parties are the same"

Quite frankly, I have no respect for anyone who took this position. Whether influenced by propaganda or… whatever… I honestly don’t know how you can say you didn’t see what a threat Trump would be (not you personally), especially in retrospect.

I’m again going to push back and say that a massive propaganda campaign, similar to 2016, is what won them the election. Crypto dumped $146 million into he election. Elon personally put something like $250 million in, AND did the “raffles” to get people to vote (not raffles, it was a lie, admitted in court)… AND he openly used Twitter to influence the election. Zuck is in with the same guys that Musk is – Thiel, etc (I say “in” loosely for Musk) and if you don’t think they also used FB you’re a fool.

But propaganda isn’t an excuse, because it requires some lack of not intentionally trying to expose yourself to new & different sources of news, but more importantly, different perspectives. And a complete detachment or ignorance from Trump’s first presidency.

MAGA was always a traitor party.

That’s literally the point. Social media is literally one of Peter Thiel & co’s weapons to overthrow & destabilize democracies. If they succeed in the US, they plan to do it to every democracy.

Easy to frame lies as “free speech” when you control what everyone gets to see

Peter Thiel was the first outside investor in Facebook, and Zuck is close with him and all the other “dark enlightenment” tech bros

  • You are delusional

“China and Russia are a threat that will only go away if they’re dead. What else can we do besides shatter the nation that defends us and pretend that the tech bros would never try to conquer the new ‘free’ states we create”

You are in la-la-land. You are, at best, trying to buy a temporary peace that literally hands our enemies everything they want - the shattering of the US, and handing the traitors that helped that happen, land and time to prepare to do it to the rest of us.

Either incredibly stupid and short sighted or just a traitor pushing moldbud ideology.

  • 😂😂😂 way to put words in my mouth. We wouldn’t be in this position if there were massive glaring issues in our system. Anyone who has an interest in current events can see that

Fracturing the United States and pulling away quickly from the world stage in a way that damages our & our allies economy & relations is… a wet dream for China & Russia. China can take the pain as it swoops in and takes jobs & relations we leave behind. Not only that - if you’re American - it’s straight up traitor talk. We already went through one civil war about the south trying to secede so they could continue slavery.

The Tech bros specifically want a tech monarchy where each “country” is run by a CEO with absolute power that otherwise only responds to the board of directors (that, assumedly… the CEO picks). Poor or don’t like it? Get out and go to a different network state. If the fascist state even lets you leave.

For the record, AIPAC can rot.

As can anyone promoting this mold bug ideology nonsense. It is traitor talk.

  • I agree with you

As someone with trans family, and that works around parents (but has no kids myself), and is very liberal personally –

From what I can tell, Gavin is speaking to how the average parent feels. They are accepting of trans people, but have some hesitations and those are coming out through this example, for one. And I mean the more liberal parents

You either need to get out there and speak to these people and work to help them get over these feelings, or you need to accept how they feel and the… yes I’m spinning this phrase… boundary they are requesting and then work within that to change their minds

Raging at them and damning candidates over it without working to actually change it is just like the Palestine voters and Kamala all over again (at least at a superficial level)
