This is terrifying. Also another case where the use of clinical language really grinds my gears. Sheriff said the 25-year-old died from “mechanical and positional asphyxia”… i get that’s precisely what it’s called but it also seems to create this rift between:

• a young man having a mental health crisis while in custody of police

and

• the police having direct responsibility for this outcome

It’s like: the guy was there, the cops were there, mechanical and positional asphyxia took place, the man died. A room full of cops and they can’t figure out exactly what happened? Jesus fucking Christ

That’s the thing–the actual purpose of the appliances hasn’t changed at all. Every “advancement” is typically proprietary tech made to help comply with energy and water/gas usage standards–or to add perceived value through some half-baked gimmicks. For instance, dishwashers use smaller pumps run for longer periods of time to perform the same amount of work a larger more powerful pump could handle (in many cases a single pump sufficed for a dishwasher–one rotational direction for wash, opposite direction for drain)… I’m totally on board with energy efficiency but the laughably cheap/shitty tech they use to those ends kinda blunt the effectiveness of the energy saving measures (since replacing parts–or more likely entire dishwashers when those pumps fail–is a less energy-saving process than having a stronger, more durable pump that draws an extra amp or 2)

Some of my all-time favorite music. They are a massive influence in my taste in music…It had never occurred to me that nostalgia could be induced by ‘foreign’ (unfamiliar may be the better word) music, and for a place/time that may never have even existed or may be misremembered or jumbled with other memories. It’s strange what music can do, how it can make you feel, think, see… They also showed me how ominous electronic music can sound, how much of a landscape can be painted with sound. I love all their albums, and getting to experience the release of Tomorrow’s Harvest was a treat.

This is the second time I’ve seen BoC pop up in the past 2 days day (edit, lol). I swear, the one good thing that’s come about in the past couple years has been this place. Thank you all for being here and participating!

One of the neighbors a ¼ mile away from one of these mega mining facilities said they are reading noise levels between 80-100 decibels daily. Imagine some prick opened a giant loud energy sucking machine that’s strictly there to produce profit for them. Nothing tangible beyond that. Funny thing is, i agree that free healthcare absolutely should be a right. I have voted and will continue to vote for any candidates that support it. I’m just disenfranchised at this point. I will continue to vote, but I’ve seen little/no good come of it.

It’s not the legislation I’m worried about, it’s the enforcement 🫠
