For selfish reasons, just because it is a “fun” project. And I’m sure management figures they will profit one way or another the more they control everything thru their AIs they shove on people.

It’s an official announcement written by Google.
We’ve all done that. One time I posted something and forgot about it. Came back next day and found the first person to comment completely derailed what I was saying by mischaracterizing it. And then all the replies were about the mischaracterization and there were no replies to the substance of what I actually said.
It’s pretty easy to imagine all the ways this technology can because a nightmare. Maybe Russia puts AI spies on your phone that listen to see if you say anything bad about Putin to the person you are talking to and then pings their police and tells them what you said. Fuck you google for creating this technology.
Oh, and if you are part of the vast majority of people who aren’t going to fall for a random ‘gift-card’ scam, this AI will always be running constantly draining your battery anyway.
The vast majority of it is not “security development”. There are just screwing around with perfectly good software, sometimes making it worse, because they have a large staff of developers they are paying a salary to.
I don’t want web browsers to be changing all the time forcing me to do updates. Software that is complete doesn’t need to be changed just for the sake of change.

There is no growth potential at all. They regularly bleed large numbers of users with their rando-bans, and the new user experience is so terrible that there is no reason any new person would ever want to use it.
I appealed it and it was lifted, but not before it was upgraded to a permanent ban for ban-evasion on other accounts (I’ve never had more than one account in my 14 years of reddit.)
Reddit has a feature where there helpfully link your account to stranger’s accounts. When the stranger is banned from any sub, you are too. But you don’t know you are banned from those subs. So when you innocently post, you get perma-banned.
Piefed sucks bigtime.
I always call it the Department of Government Enshitification
They will do it so long as not doing it greatly increases the amount of busywork, spam moderation and troll moderation.
Then they are unfit to be moderators because they are subtracting value from free discussions. I would much rather have to little moderation than lazy heavy handed moderation.

A lot of people can’t tell the difference and just assume that someone with an unpopular opinion must be trolling.
If/when it does get big enough, what would be a good solution?
The best solution is to do nothing and don’t try to bring reddit’s groupthink enforcement flaws to lemmy.
Unpopular opinions deserve to be silenced? Terrible idea. We already have way too much group think.
One of the things I miss about reddit (and slashdot before that) was that if you got downvoted/downmodded a lot in a short amount of time, it would tell you to slow down
That was a horrible system. If you didn’t get positive karma on your very first post, your account was ruined because you could never dig yourself out.

The same amount of time I came across a post that is about men’s issues. A really long time. The vast majority of comments should not be about identity politics, unless it is a feature of the specific community.
Now that we don’t have a real president anymore Google started including white house announcements in Google News. I know every one of these is written by an idiot who is not qualified for their job so I turned them off. But why the fuck didn’t they do this back when we actually had a real president and these announcements were legitimate newsworthy information? The announcements of a real president were never considered newsworthy information but the babblings of a traitorapist with the mind of a 13 year old are? Fuck you google!
