Pretty much lol

I’m lucky that I work from home (have done since before the pandemic) and pretty much all my work is done in a browser, and my bosses don’t care what I use as long as the work gets done. So I just work on Fedora on my regular desktop.

There was an episode of some TV show (maybe Broadchurch?) where David Tennant microwaved his tea and it genuinely upset enough people that it made the news lol.

My desktop won’t run Windows 11 according to Windows 11. But if I make a VM with fake TPM on it, it will run perfectly well inside a VM on a machine that won’t run it lol

I understand why it doesn’t exist because it’s pretty niche and a shitload of work, but I wish there was a a really good dedicated 2D animation software similar to Moho Pro or Toon Boom Harmony on Linux. That’s one of the only reasons I’m still keeping Windows around.

Also as a side note, don’t trust Toon Boom. I bought a perpetual license from them that was super expensive, and then they switched to a subscription model and turned off my perpetual license.

My somewhat convoluted solution is using Scrivener 3 in Wine. Takes a bit of setting up but works really well for me now. Also it’s not a dedicated screenwriting software (it’s designed for novels I think) but it has a screenwriting mode which does everything I need it to.

Mine used to be like that, but now my home folder is rehabilitated by turning ~/Documents into a hellhole of accumulated junk instead.

You can also just make a file called .hidden and paste the names in there and it’ll hide them, that way it doesn’t mess up any paths/symlinks etc. Or at least in KDE/Dolphin you can do that, I dunno about other setups.

Yeah that’s fair. And mine were pretty small scripts so easy enough to check, and I keep proper backups and whatnot so no big deal. But like I say I wouldn’t use it for anything big or important.

My favourite one (it happens a lot in the UK and I assume in other places too) is when people say things like “I support the cause but the protest is really disruptive.”

Like no shit, that’s the entire point of a protest. They also sometimes complain about strikes being inconvenient for them. Oh, is this strike illustrating to you why this service is essential and it would be bad if it went away?

One time when I used to be on reddit I had an argument with someone who was against a climate protest because it could have blocked an ambulance and gotten someone killed. But this was after the protest had already happened and that had not occurred. So you don’t support it because of a hypothetical disaster that you just made up, that already didn’t happen? People, man

Yeah pretty much! TBH for the first one there are already things online that can do that, I just wanted to test how the AI would do so I gave it a simple thing, it worked well and so I kept using it. The second one I wasn’t sure about because it’s a bit copyright-y, but yeah like you say it was just quicker. I wouldn’t use the AI for anything super important, but I figured it’d do for a quick little script that only needs to do one specific thing just for me.

Not OP but I made a little menu thing for launching VMs and a script for grabbing trailers for downloaded movies that reads the name of the folder, finds the trailer and uses yt-dlp to grab it, puts it in the folder and renames it.

I’m trying to think of the last time I heard news about something to do with the internet getting better instead of worse, and I’m genuinely coming up blank.

One time I got on the bus and there was a big sketchy-looking dude, definitely on something, sitting at the back laughing hysterically. Out of common sense I kept my distance at first, but I was kind of looking at him out of the corner of my eye to see what was going on, and I saw he was reading a book. This guy was literally almost rolling on the floor laughing, and I decided I have to find out what this book is.

Being a… not very large person myself this was sketchy, but he seemed to be oblivious to everything else around him so I sat opposite kind of close to see what book this jacked-up crackhead was losing his shit over. It was Bridget Jones’ Diary. I still haven’t read it but I think that’s a good recommendation.

I’ve seen people pooping on the bus stop from inside the bus, but luckily I haven’t had anyone do it inside the actual bus yet.

Also one time our city decided to close all the train station bathrooms to stop people from OD-ing in them. But this of course also stopped people from going to the bathroom, so people just started pissing on the floor outside the locked doors. They’re open again now.

I had a similar thing on a bus once, all the seats were full so there was a line of people standing down the middle aisle of the bus. There was an old homeless dude on one side and a young woman on the other side, and he was hassling her and kept reaching across the aisle and touching her, which she obviously didn’t want. The guy standing up nearest to them kept stopping the guy and sort of swatting his hand away whenever he tried. Then the bus stopped and the guy turned to the guy behind him and was like “This is my stop, you got this?” and then the next guy moved forward and started telling the guy off and swatting his hand away.

After that it just kept moving like a production line of us telling this creeper off and pushing his hand away. It didn’t seem to matter if those of us in the line were men or women, he was just really obsessed with this one person. So at least five people in front of me did it, then I did it, then the guy behind me took over when I had to leave. I have no idea how long it went on for lol.

I heard someone describe LLMs as “a magic 8-ball with an algorithm to nudge it in the right direction.” I dunno how accurate that is, but it definitely feels like that sometimes.

I’m genuinely considering putting some cash aside in case the AI bubble does pop so I can load up on cheap PC parts if they start dumping them lol
