If we lose the meaning of the word NAS then we can’t effectively talk about it. And enough new people are coming in and being taught that a NAS is the thing that runs Plex that it’s sometimes impossible to have a conductive conversation.
For me it’s not about what else I can run on it. I want my services separated from my storage devices. If I throw everything into one physical machine it takes everything down if something goes wrong. It’s also harder to do upgrades without needing to replace entire machines
And as usual everyone is saying NAS, but talking about servers with a built in NAS.
I’m not saying you can’t run your services on the same machine as your NAS, I’m just confused why every time there’s a conversation about NASs it’s always about what software it can run.
Would you say the same if she had a bottle of whiskey? Or pornography? What about a gun?
Just because it was something that can be used responsibly by adults doesn’t absolve the negligence of leaving it to be used by children.
The whole point of jellyfin/Plex is to provide a feature rich UI for your video files on your hard drive. This is walking back from that to the point that you may as well just use vlc and map network drives on windows. Heck, just carrying around a SSD full of videos is easier than this.

When we dream we often believe it to be reality, despite that in retrospect we can identify clear contradictions with logic in those dreams.
A Matrix-like simulation doesn’t have to be perfect. We are a bunch of dumb-dumbs who will suspend disbelief quite easily and dismiss those who claim to see a different truth as crazy.
Or the ones who think you’re trying to make everyone redundant. I’ve worked on scripts that have been shut down because a co worker thought it would make people lose their jobs so they complain to the boss.
In Australia University used to be free. At some point they realised that Asia is close and has a virtually limitless supply of rich parents who want to pay big money for their kids to be lawyers and doctors.
Education is now one of Australia’s main exports.

Quite regularly, but only because I coincidentally moved into a house across the road from an acquaintance that became a good friend. We go over each other’s house for tea, or board games, or casual multiplayer video games.
If it weren’t for that proximity I’d say I’d very rarely spend time with friends. Life is busy. Work wants 40 or more hours a week, then you’ve got chores, shopping, study (if you’re doing that, I was studying full time for a year and a bit recently), then you just need time for personal hobbies and relaxation. On top of that, other people can be flaky, or just busy with their own things.

For those who don’t know, the owner of the original IP didn’t want to renew the license for the games, which means the games can no longer use anything from the novel which includes all references to mitochondria and Eve. That’s why 3rd Birthday was seemingly a totally different game; they tried to make a sequel that couldn’t reference any of the main plot points of the previous games or novel.
You can definitely fit a car through. In the novels they even transport helicopters and earth moving vehicles to set up military/mining facilities. Think about it, four people can comfortably walk into a Stargate side by side.
The Stargate device has been weaponised plenty. The best one being in a satellite shooting a high powered laser from orbit.

I disagree that the responsibly of an accident falls on what other people wanted you to do. What if you had to take someone to hospital and the same accident occurred? Is it the fault of the person that needed to go to hospital? What if you need to rush out to help a family member in distress? Would it be their fault for being in distress?
I think it’s not a good analogy for responsibility. Sometimes car accidents happen and you can’t pin that on “it’s not my fault because I didn’t actually want to go to the place I’m driving”
There is a possible version of windows that is good and that people want. It’s a just a shame that Microsoft isn’t interested it making it.
As someone who grew up on windows, I’m willing to stay with it for as long as I can make it like that version. I don’t want Mac, and Linux doesn’t support enough (still, but maybe one day)
