    From what I found online:

During this time period (2015-2016) DJ Khaled’s persona was very pro-doing what’s best for yourself. The “They” referenced here is not non-binary people, but is supposed to represent “people that don’t want the best for you.” Basically saying to surround yourself with good people that want to see you succeed.

Ive defended the dude before, and before I do let me make it clear I think his personality is “Annoying egomaniac hypebeast douche” but I do respect his hustle from a business perspective.

He is actually a really good producer and I dont mean in terms of actually mixing and producing the music himself, he is more like a movie producer, he has connections, money and a good ear for talent. He buys a beat, calls some people he thinks would be good for the track or would be good on a track together, pays them to do their verses, pays someone to mix it into a complete track and puts it out. The man was Mr Miami when Miami was blowing up, Pitbull was still “Mr 305”, he made flashy obnoxious mainstream rap when everyone was wearing Ed Hardy jeans and Marc Ecko watches… right place, right time and he shot his shot.

I mean the man was the child of palestinian immigrantsand not cashed up ones and is now worth an estimated 70 million having created his own dream job. Have a look at his award nominations on his wikipedia… he is an enormous tool, but he isnt untalented.

I think it’s fair to point out that he could be doing all of that behind the scenes and that he doesn’t need to be shouting his name on every song

But that’s the point, he’s a businessman, not an entertainer.

I mean, I’d find it hard to say he’s not, at all, an entertainer?

Like, I feel most people know him from seeing performances of him. He, essentially, performs the role of hypeman, a lot of times.

I certainly wouldn’t disagree he also acts as a business man but I think he does a lot of entertainment-related work, as well.

He’s also a Palestinian immigrant who built his entire fortune from nothing. And you’re getting downvotes for pointing out the very real common refrains used against many entertainers of color. Everyone freaked the fuck out because Beyoncé put on a cowboy hat for chrissake.

It’s almost like all the most ignorant hivemind elements of Reddit just moved over to lemmy.world - glad they’re mostly confined to one instance at least.

For real; I hope it’s mostly just one instance. I haven’t been paying attention to instances but it feels shockingly widespread on Lemmy (but, given lemmy.world’s size, it could just be that).

Thanks for backing me up and keeping me from feeling crazy.

You’re definitely reaching to try and make this a race thing.

Ah; I thought you were approaching and conversing in good faith. My mistake.

If you’re unfamiliar with the tone policing of “not following proper decorum” (and that’s exactly what “he doesn’t need to be shouting his name on every song” is; it’s not a debate about whether he can: it’s an assertion that that’s not an appropriate way to behave for the setting), then you should probably familiarize yourself.

But, as a person with lived racial experience, I am very much not reaching.

This shit works! I am now in the unfortunate position of knowing who DJ Khaled is. That’s probably all he wanted.

Yeah, but what about the class war? You’ve got like the proletariat that is more conservative, you know, struggling financially. Other people exist, yes they do. But I feel like this is all just wokeism and if that triggers you too much, maybe I’ll sanitize it and say, identity politics… I mean the Democrats use minorities as human shields, so… Mass shooters, some of their main motivations are due to socio-economics. The extremism has to do with existential threat, and that existential threat is incorrectly assigned to…the fear of people having sex with people they want to. Like in a liberal bourgeois democracy, when the liberalism fails, it turns into populist right-wing fascism. This happens over and over again. So I guess I’m just, uh… trying to point out that these people are suffering still. And that’s why they act like dicks. Liberals feed the machine. And liberals kinda act like fascist too sometimes. They’re always like, you know, some of you fringe lefties are reactionary. But what I’ve noticed is that liberals are reactionary. You also argue with each other way too much. I mean I would just focus on the socioeconomics. That’s how you’re going to get some of those right wingers into your circle of influence for a positive result. If not, we’re probably gonna have a fucking civil war Because these Christian evangelicals have got like guns and training camps and yeah some of them look goofy but some of them are actually pretty you know, ready to go. So basically what I’m saying is, America is a nation of idolaters. You worship idols. And at the end of the day, fuck this fat turd. All I want these entertainers to do is entertain me. I don’t give a fuck what they think. Be an artist. Be a musician. Be a dancer. Dance motherfucker dance.

Those that are so preoccupied with hating others for their LGBTQ+ status usually don’t care about solutions to their financial positions, and instead often advocate for trickle-down economics or similar, and fear that general welfare would just “give money to those who don’t deserve it”. Their main goal is to shift progressives into socially ultra-conservative points.

I’ve seen people like them. Every time one of our liberals have forfeited their positions, all they did is nod, then say “Aham, when will you move even farther to the right, fucking communist?”.
