I have a full time job but some coworkers suggested I could apply to a department with a manager who seems to be a complete sociopath and seems to always need personnel.
In said department, there was a nurse that worked part time to finance her bachelor to be a physician assistant with the promise to be hired afterwards. She was sometimes very talkative and a gossip but otherwise a good nurse. Barely a week before the contract was to be signed, after she got her degree, she was told they found a better candidate with more experience so they wouldn’t hire her.
Obviously, she used all her sick days and then quit. Why would anyone work for a manager like this?
Chilling and very sad that people are sometimes like this. She was used.
Would you work for a manager like this? Because some coworkers would like me to apply to work for this guy,because they’re always shorthanded. I’m not asking because I need this job, but because it’s always good to know what other options you have before looking elsewhere.

They’re not my direct coworkers but we worked together for 2 years before I transferred. Some of them miss how I worked, apparently.

This has more red flags than a USSR parade. If you need a job urgently, that’s one thing. But willingly working for a manager who understaffs and disrespects employees?
it’s a bit more complex than that: some of these coworkers are actually genuine and I enjoyed working with them, the department is in constant need of accredited personnel but the manager seems to be a complete asshole.
The stresss of an abusive manager and an enabling employer outweigh the advantages of good coworkers. I’ve got a few friends who look back at “that” job and wonder why they didn’t run away the first time they got their holidays cancelled or their pay delayed or…
Right, in that case I guess you to need to explain to your coworker that the manager needs to face the consequences of his actions; only through boycotting our Labour or complaining about him can we get him to change his method.
