2nd Edit: I have just learned that Waters has very publicly supported Putin in the war on Ukraine saying, that Putin governs carefully and makes decisions based on consensus? So it’s pricks all around in this story.
Your underlying point is correct and I agree
But the pedant in me hates this saying. It’s almost never true. A clock broken in a very specific way is right twice a day, but how many clocks get broken like that? If they get smashed, and hands fall off, they can’t even show a valid time. Even then, they’re more likely to just run at the wrong speed, which makes it VERY unlikely they’ll show the correct time even once a day. Also most clocks are digital now! If those break, they show nothing!

It’s because the correct saying is “a stopped clock is right twice a day”.
That makes way more sense!
You used to have to wind up your clocks so having a stopped clock was a regular occurrence.
I have a mechanical wrist watch, so I do know this, but it’s got an automatic winding mechanism and I pretty much never take it off, so I rarely think about winding it except when it drifts too far. I really should have put 2 and 2 together before now. It never occurred to me to check that people were using the idiom correctly.
