Why’s that?
A controversial figure. Very out spoken against Israel, but has sided with Russia in a few occasions. While he did call Russia’s invasion of Ukraine illegal, he stated that the West were provocateurs. Also there’s the whole Waters versus Gilmour battle over the years.

Is he controversial because he has nuanced opinions?
I would say a lot of people would claim someone is controversial if their opinions differ. Roger is complicated, some would say he’s on the spectrum, (I think some people would say we’re all on the spectrum though), but everyone is complicated.

He’s also very passionate about exposing his views and says exactly what his uncharitable opinions are about people. He’s intense to the point of being rude, in other words, so people react more strongly to him and that makes him a more controversial figure.
