There’s no “algorithm” on blog posts. You choose to subscribe to it or visit it regularly, if that’s what you want.

The average social media profile has just headlines and lead pictures, while a good blog also has articles

The snarky way to put it would be: more words, and the pretension of them meaning something profound.

I actually really appreciate people trying, though, and have learned some neat things from blog posts. I don’t really get the point of social media profiles by comparison.

So, some blogs are social media: Blogger, Blogspot, live journal are examples. The users of the site provide the content, have profiles and submissions, all that.

But some are not! Dev blogs for software projects and site update blogs are good examples of this. They may or may not have comments but it’s the proprietors of the websites providing the ordinary content.

Who provides the content, users or proprietors, is what makes it social media or not.

A blog is a like a magazine with a theme and constrained story to tell. A social media profile is like a business card for life.

If a person has not explored and expanded their interests, they may lack multifaceted dimensionality of interests. Conversely, a person may be so ultra specialized to the point where little distinction is evident. In between these two are the rest of us that have multiple areas of interest.

I could create a blog about electronics, reverse engineering, and KiCAD. People interested in that content will be less interested in watching when I talk about FreeCAD and 3D printing. Both of those would be uninterested if I talk about professionally painting cars, airbrush, and graphics, or hot rodding and building motors. All of those would be uninterested if I talk about Linux and exploring kernel development on the Pine Tab 2. All of those will be uninterested if I share my research into the vocabulary of AI, and QKV model alignment over the last 3 years. Those are likely to be uninterested in posts about losing over 150 pounds, cycling, racing, and bike stuff. All of those are likely to be uninterested in posts about barely surviving getting hit by a couple of SUVs and the challenges of long term disability.

However, I could post about all of these in a social media profile because these are all me, they are my brand. It is part of the journey. If you’re young, you may have a similar multifaceted complexity by 40, or maybe not, it largely depends on your self awareness and environment.
