Man. I know what they were. I don’t want to review them. Water and my adventurous spirit, aka dumbass kayaker, almost took me out twice. You’re pretty fukin exhausted after fighting for your life. No fun. And then the motorcycles and booze over and over. Right. No, I don’t want to review any of that. Made it through once. Enough.

    1. Either when I was in elementary school or early middle school, I was pushed from behind into the deep end of a pool (~10 feet IIRC) not knowing how to swim. I didn’t have the chance to take a breath, so I wasn’t buoyant and struggled to make any more progress than ~3 feet below the surface. I was underwater long enough to get tunnel vision and start to pass out; I was pretty upset at the kid that pushed me in and why it took him so long to help me out. Sure, not really life or death, but enough to get me exhausted and have memories of my young life flash before me.
    2. While working at a grocery store, I was nearly hit by a car driven by some dick kid flooring it in the parking lot while I was bringing in shopping carts. To this day, people zooming through parking lots really aggravates me.
    3. Heard and felt a ricochet from a .243 Winchester FMJ round next to my left ear when sighting in a scope as I shot a target pinned to a round hay bale ~50 yards away. The round/shrapnel was estimated to be within 2 inches of my head. I’m unsure how the ricochet traveled at almost the same angle of incidence. I just know that I felt it whiz by.
    4. Fell 8-12 feet while free soloing the King and Queen Seat in Maryland and managed to turn during the fall and blindly catch my arm. I estimate that I caught myself 35-40 feet from the ground.
    5. Had a gun pulled on me a couple times.

I see those moments all the time. It’s like seeing the different dimensional differences where I died in them.

Slipped in the shower, but you’re okay? Yup.

Oncoming traffic feel just a little bit too close? Uh huh.

Basically, anytime you have to be careful or you worry at all, there’s a different timeline that’s just a little too close for comfort. And that’s the stuff that we’re AWARE of.

tbf no. I’m living my life like there is no after life. If anything happens after I die I’m fucked, regardless of the scenario

Only 5? Missing out on some quality entertainment by limiting it like that.

I’ve had a few good ones. I recounted them to my dad one time, I recall. Experimenting with prescription drugs as a kid (muscle relaxants when I was like 8), driving in the rain with no license when I was 15, excess opiates that one time, too many sedatives with alcohol a couple of times, and then the legit health problems… I had seizures from low blood glucose a time or two. Pretty exciting record imo

You know your dad better than I do, but the vast majority of parents don’t want to hear those. It would hurt my father quite a bit emotionally to have to hear about the times that he wasn’t there to protect me (he was an incredibly present father, nothing to do with being a deadbeat).

the topic was “wow, I’ve been really lucky”. It’s okay, here were are and he’s 85 with Alzheimers and I’m almost 50. So we made it. Overall, though, if I had a complaint about him, it’s that he wasn’t very aware or engaged in my life from day to day.

3 Not unconscious, but not far off from it (but heat in the summer plus also having not had a meal for a long time while being outdoors in a rarely frequented part of the woods)

Of the most obvious times I’m aware of, they’re mostly boring. But, I’d love to know if there were any near death situations worthy of inclusion in a Final Destination movie. Like I’m at the zoo, leaning on the rails in front of the lions and the joints of the protective bars are corroded but a split second before the bar holding my weight broke loose and I plunged 25 feet into the lion pit, another little kid blurted out “Mommy why is that lion trying to climb on top of the other lion are they wrestling?” which broke my focus causing me to shift my weight off the bar, thus saving my life.

This is a party question that I do to break the ice, it has 2 variants. The first one is:

“you died, sad. but hey, you go to heaven and guess what, god is there to receive you, he do something very cool for everyone who reaches him, he want to show you 5 statistics of your life, but you need to choose only 5. It can be whatever, like, how many pens you run out of ink, or more specific, like, how many times did you left somebody hanged on with the high five and you didn’t realized. Which 5 statistics you choose to see?”

Some people choose “how many times I was close to dead” as one of their five statistics, and the second variant is:

“You are blessed with some cool ass ability: you can left-click on people, but the menu that opens is something that you only can see, and what you see is not a menu, is a statistics table of that person. Which 5 statistics of every person would you like to know?”

The liberty of choose 5 statistics is the same as the first question.

Or if you could see that before you die. Could be useful information.

“Oh probably i should stop skipping that particular traffic light.”

For those in car-centric countries, I’d bet that potential vehicle accidents are likely a majority of those.
