  • I was only messing around, no need to apologise!

Potential sea lioning? That would be literally any question. And it was only the second question. And the topic is not whatsoever the type of controversial thing people would usually approach in that way.

Honestly, I bristle at the overuse of the term sea lioning. It makes the internet a much worse place if we go around assuming people are only trying to find out stuff they don’t know from other humans as a malicious method to waste our time. That comic did more harm than good, imo

  • I guess! Possibly high effort, low reward but it could work I suppose.

Idea being those converts go on to do the work for you elsewhere.

But I still think they’re just people after this stage. Lots of people become communist on their own as well. You don’t need to glaze China to do it but it probably creates a bit of cognitive dissonance to see how awful it is there. So you ignore stuff like the uyghurs and pretend it’s amazing so you can pretend communism will work.

  • As everyone else has said, there is definitely this issue on Lemmy, when criticising China and Russia especially. Happened to me a few times. It’s weird.

I once did a test to see if the bias was really that bad and commented on a relevant news article on .ml something like “fuck Putin. Russia is committing war crimes in Ukraine” maybe with a couple of extra similar phrases. Comment deleted by mods with no explanation. Insane.

I could just be paranoid but I’m fairly convinced the responses weren’t from patriotic citizens. I think they were paid trolls or bots, and I think their purpose was to quiet negative talking points about the countries that were mentioned.

This is a common suggestion. I can see why people say it, but I just find it hard to believe people are really spending time here to do that. Wouldn’t you just go to reddit? What, do you want to convert the trekkies and Linux evangelists?

I think it’s much scarier than that: some people are just fucking nuts

  • I think you have good points but it doesn’t fit with current social norms in most places. People respond like this because we don’t usually see people’s junk. Breaking this norm sends people’s minds right to sex because that’s when you usually see other people naked.

a naked body is not inherently a sexual object

Genuine question: what about a dick/vagina? Likewise it is natural and has other functions too. But it is an inherently sexual object, right?

If so, then I think it’s clear why people see naked bodies (literally, the stuff we see all the time + visible dick/vagina + nipples) as inherently sexual. Nudity is fine in theory, but you don’t get one without the other.

  • Yeah I was expecting a much worse price. Unfortunately I’m not ready to update my console yet, so I won’t buy on release like I did with V. But you can bet I’ll get it as soon as I upgrade.

To the people complaining about the stories in GTA games:

    1. Rockstar made Red Dead 2. Great characters. Great story. Great writing. You haven’t played VI yet, the story could be awesome.

    2. Some people just like to have fun. I play loads of story-focused games, narrative based, lore-rich, all types. But it’s still fun to drive around and shoot shit while listening to silly fake radio stations sometimes. Not everything has to be a thought-provoking artistic experience. Give me sticky bombs and a rock/punk station and I’ll be happy for hours.

Yes it’s overhyped. But it will be fucking awesome nonetheless

  • I see where you’re coming from now. I think if you define imperialism in that way, it makes sense that you would consider all of those countries imperialist.

When markets are fully saturated domestically, capital expands outward. Once industrial and bank capital grow, they merge and dominate the entire economy, resulting in the dominance of finance capital in the economy …

But this whole description seems weird to me. Are there any powerful capitalist countries that could avoid this?

And I still don’t think Russia could possibly escape this definition. They have BRICS and are a major oil trader. They physically are trying to occupy another country right now. They use Russian language and state media to influence Eastern European countries in particular.
