The same reason CPAs have been working 16 hours a day 7 days a week at the Big 4 accounting firms. There is a shortage of people qualified to do the work that keeps this country running and people alive. CPAs hold up the economy, doctors hold up the health of the nation. Both do it way more to help than to be paid well.

I have a lot of friends stuck at Big 4 accounting firms, working 80-100 hours a week half the year and 50-60 the other half, for this exact reason. Absolutely hellish.
