There is a degree of subjectivity to it, but at some point you pass a threshold where it should become obvious to most people. When I was in college, a CS degree was the one degree everyone knew would land you a well paying job right from graduation. It had been like that before I got there, and it was like that after I left. That isn’t the case anymore, and you can’t blame it all on AI.

I think the biggest piece of evidence that AI isn’t actually causing the layoffs is that it doesn’t actually fucking work and everyone knows it.

The tech sector had been over hiring for a decade. The cutbacks were inevitable in any course. Whats funny about it is that by using AI as a standover they are enshittifying their product faster and costing themselves more in the process than if they had just started firing people.

Likely your phone has picked up on something and is serving you targeted ads, but the ad industry has decided that those ads should target only women for some reason. I hit my head a lot as a kid. I periodically experience what I assume is a form of epilepsy (no my doctor has not been any help.) It can happen at any moment, even while I am asleep. It starts very suddenly and feels surreal, like dejavu. That feeling subsides (sometimes i get flashes of dreams I have had) and is replaced by nausea, sometimes enough to make me puke. Afterwards, I tend to be mildly confused and my working memory is hindered. I have a hard time remembering what day or season it is and what the structure of my day is sposed to be. Its very annoying and I don’t believe I could get to the bottom of it without them scanning my brain while it occurs.

You might be describing orthostatic hypotension. Does it occur when you move after a long period of staying still?

You are right to doubt the concept of self. The closer you look at these things the more the distinctions we arbitrarily apply to life and to the “self” dissolve. I have experienced ego death on a few occasions, and what it taught me is that life and matter is all one. The self is just a useful illusion of the mind. You sound like you might be overwhelmed by something and I would be willing to bet that ego is the underlying cause of it. How you think about yourself does matter, just remember that you deserve the same love that everything does.

Is there a word for semantic satiation except at societal scale? Like when everyone uses a word so often to mean so many things that it loses most of its meaning.

I wonder if doctors in China/India have more scruples about prescribing opiates. Here in the U.S. they give them to you for just about any amount of pain, weather you asked for them or not. They have given me opiates after I specifically told them I won’t take them because of the side effects. The treatment of pain here in the U.S. is stuck in the 1950s.

There is balance in all things. Making fun of the English and Americans is equally as funny. So’s the dutch and the Portuguese and the Spanish. If at any point your country was an empire, making fun of its people is open game.
