For me, when I load the game, sometimes at the title screen, but more frequently only when I start a competitive game, the entire screen starts flashing black and then back to the game maybe once or twice a second. It often settles down after a minute and stops flashing, but sometimes it starts flashing again or it won’t stop for the entire game. And then, sometimes, the entire screen turns black and stays black and I have to restart the game to get the graphics to return.
I’ve been playing Rocket League for years, just because it’s a good way to hang out with a friend who likes it.
For probably the past year, I’ve been playing it in Linux. But recently, suspiciously at about the same time that they added the anti-cheat software, Rocket League has become barely playable in Linux, at least for me.
I don’t really see the need for either anti-cheat or an engine update. I only anticipate that it will make it run even worse in Linux.
She wants to place the blame completely on Rocksman, but wasn’t she the one who decided to work with a shady company instead of a legitimate one in the first place?
Also, she’s out of pocket hundreds of thousands of dollars? This amount of money seems excessive to the point of absurdity. It’s so high that it makes you feel like it’s got to be a smokescreen. Like, that’s exactly what you would expect her to say if this whole thing was her grift and she kept all of the money from ticket sales herself.
Are we going to start arresting people who publish lies on social media as if they’re news?
I’m pretty sure that the reason we haven’t done so is something called the First Amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees free speech and freedom of the press.
If they’re going to arrest people for lying, the city of Trinidad, Texas, should start with people who lie the most and make the most severe lies, like Donald Trump and many of his top officials.

When you call emergency services, they need to know your location. You know, because you’ve got an emergency, which is almost always where you are, and you might not know exactly where you are.
And, this is information that the telecom companies should already know. And it’s information that the caller might not know.
This isn’t a “very large step towards [a] dystopian future.” It’s your vision that is dystopian here. In your vision, people can have emergencies and die because the emergency services don’t know where to go. In your vision, people can easily fake emergencies and swat innocent people. You have a choice between a good thing and a bad thing, and you’re actually choosing the bad thing. It’s hard to fathom.
You gotta love people who would create a dysfunctional government just because they don’t realize that similar things can be good or bad depending on context, and that emergencies are exceptional circumstances.

That’s not surveillance. That’s basic service, allowing the recipient of a call to know who is actually calling them. The same thing would also stop a lot of scammers.
There are a lot of things that can be pointed at as to why this happens so much in the US. But I think most people forget that this is a problem that can literally be fixed using laws and technology.
Swatting can only happen because the US telecom system is so full of holes and because the US legal system isn’t doing its job.

And all we need to do to make that happen is to change the law so that telecom companies are held criminally and civilly liable when a person uses their infrastructure to fake where an emergency call is coming from.
Calls that come from foreign sources or from internet sources would harbor great suspicion. Imagine that the operator gets a big flashing notice that the call is suspicious right from the start.

When moderators remove content, they should have the same experience. It makes things easier for them.
Users who read the rules don’t end up getting upset about wasting time having their content that they worked hard on removed.
I don’t think it’s a good experience for users if moderators even appear to be power-tripping, and that’s often what it looks like if they are moderating without rules.
The exception that I think most people would agree with is that when the rules are specific, you can get trolls who specialize in barely not breaking the rules, while tricking other people into breaking the rules. So, good moderators do need a little discretion, but I think most of their moderation would be easier with specific rules.
It was only last year that I more-or-less just said “fuck it, if I can’t get a game to work in Linux, then I’m not playing that game.” So far, the only game that I wanted to play but couldn’t was a demo, and when the final game came out, it was playable. But I rarely go for any performance heavy FPS games.
I have never dual booted successfully. I mean, I have set up dual boots. But I am fundamentally incapable of actually switching back and forth. I inevitably just pick one OS and only boot into that one.
