Entryism historically has faired better than a “revolutionary” third party. No party aside from Dems and Republicans have controlled congress or the presidency since the 1850s. More recently we have seen political flips. FDR’s New Deal coalition failed to include LGBTQIA+, but the coalition survived 30ish years with prosperity for the working class* before ultimately being destroyed by Nixon and ultimately Reagan.

My point being, that the last 2 times revolutionary politics wete introduced (FDR and Reaganism/Trumpism) it led to YEARS of success for the party:

Healthy, well-regulated capitalism is complementary to socialism. In a world of abundance capitalism gives power to the workers to choose how they want to spend their time and to work on the projects they’re passionate and proud of, while socialism evens the playing field for kids to be able to grow up and participate on an equal footing, and it enables entrepreneurs to take greater risks to advance society’s collective prosperity. Healthy, well-regulated (but still flawed) capitalism existed for under 50 years. It did not address bigotry and other social injustices, as society was considered to be a monolith of white men. Socialism in this same time frame would have had the same issues: unaddressed bigotry and unequal footing.

It should also be noted that legislation has increasingly made it more difficult for a 3rd party to participate. So while there was limited success in 2000, States have made it more difficult for third parties to have success.

We need a revolution. I would rather a peaceful revolution, and I’m sure you would too. But regardless of the shape the revolution takes, following a path of least resistance is a less labor intensive way to grow a movement, and it’s a playbook that has worked well against the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Trans people shouldn’t play sports” offends fewer people than “trans people shouldn’t live” even though they mean the same thing. That’s why Republicans have hit sports so hard. It’s why they targeted local drag shows not Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Take a page from their book. Tea party the shit out of the Democrats.

If you want to build a movement quick, get quick wins. Boycott a local restaurant for hosting a Nazi candidate, as opposed to boycotting Walmart. Creating a 3rd party pushes an elected revolution back by a minimum of 4 years (since many states dont give ballot access unless you hit 5% in the previous election).

*Of course, the cis straight white folk faired the best

Energy storage =/= batteries

I’m American, I dont know shit about geography, but I think Germany is central to northern Europe.

Germany’s peak solar time is the summer, and their peak wind time is winter. Fascinating. Do you think the people in charge of the grid know this? Maybe this could be leveraged to reduce the energy storage needs for solar power during the winter???

As someone who closely follows the energy storage market, you should know that lithium-ion battery production capacity is expected to reach 7TWh/year by 2030, from 2022’s 2TWh/year. Why? Demand, from all the fucking electric vehicles because we’re going to run out of fossil fuels soon. Not technological advances.

Similarly, iron air batteries were tested by Westinghouse in the 70s, and are currently being brought to market. As far as I can tell, there has been little improvements to the technology to make it commercially viable, other than demand. You know, from all the fucking data centers going in.

Hell, let’s go back to Germany. They have double the wind capacity as they do solar? Why? Demand. Because Germany focused on wind as being the premier renewable energy, not solar. It wasn’t until recently that they created programs to increase demand of solar.

The grid is an infrastructure project. As such, we don’t need to rely on batteries. We can use infrastructure projects, such as reservoirs, for energy storage. And in the US, we’ve been using this method since 1930. I know what youre thinking, “In northern Europe we can’t do that!” But alas, Switzerland did it in 1909. And pumped storage hydropower achieves 70-80% efficiency, which is pretty fucking good. And let’s be real, if your grid isn’t diversified enough where that’s a problem, then that’s a problem with your grid and your incompetent policy makers, not the tech. Or there’s an issue with electric demand, which is a failure of your politicians not keeping the Pedophile Class in line.

The reason energy storage for the grid is a problem now is because we didn’t invest in production 30 years ago. Not because the research was behind. It’s because politicians and the pedophile class failed us.

I’m a firm believer in nuclear, but I think that’s a garbage argument against renewable since we have batteries, and other means of energy storage like reservoirs. And now China is lifting a building and dropping it for power. The US is introducing batteries that last 24 hours for data center use.

Honestly, the energy storage sector is interesting to watch right now. There are seemingly endlessly researched designs for energy storage that have never made it to market. But now all of a sudden when data centers are realizing there’s not enough power on the grid, now they’re hitting market. To an extent, I get supply and demand. But the energy storage infrastructure hitting the market now isn’t from recent ground breaking innovations. This shit could have been implemented years ago.

I’m no fan of the dem elite, but I’m still a believer that if we’re OK with incremental change and we’re active at all levels of government that we can motivate others to re-engage and take back what’s ours. That doesn’t mean that we wait till we can vote again and try better next time, it means we start creating the society we want to exist. Building up local politicians, and supporting the hell out of places that support us, hell, even supporting the hell out of places that aren’t supporting us right now but have the structure to support us.
