My spouse has a host of health issues, including vision. We went to see a specialist once and I wasn’t understanding what he meant when he referred to something in her eye as “jelly.” So I asked him to explain. I finally gave up after about the fifth or sixth time he attempted with increasingly obvious irritation to explain using some variation of the same “it’s the jelly” phrase - completely not getting that he needed to explain what “the jelly” was.
Sometimes it’s not you, but them.
You know, the jelly!
wtf is that even 🤣
this me when puerto ricans explain stuff quickly in spanish to me
(I live in puerto rico as a transplant)
Me every time someone tries to explain crypto.
I find that saying something like, “My ears seem to be moving faster than my brain today. Can we try this another time?” is a good way to indicate you’re interested in learning what they’re saying while acknowledging you’re having a hard time comprehending it at that moment.
Most people understand that our brains shut off sometimes; “the lights are on, but nobody’s home.” Most people also know good and well when someone doesn’t understand something. Acknowledging these human traits may be uncomfortable, but it’s better than trying to lie to someone who knows better.
