    @chmod755
I grew up on Eurovision but turned off as soon as they admitted the Genocide nation.
Once a respectable institution, I no longer care who “wins” or doesn’t.

Israel has been criticized by various international organizations, including the United Nations, for its treatment of Palestinians. There are reports of human rights violations documented by recognized organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch. These allegations encompass a wide range of serious offenses that necessitate making political and cultural statements to achieve progress through diplomatic pressure.

This should be enough to ban Israel.

That this needs a petition is a joke.

As long as Isreal is paying for Eurovision there’s very little reason for Eurovision to kick out Israel. Which is also why this petition won’t do anything

There are a lot of reasons, that issue is risking blowing up the entire contest. But it as long as some EBU members are so strongly positioned on both sides I don’t see a solution. A solution will start to be possible when one side gives in.

Ah yea sorry - here’s the translated text:

      The Issue

Eurovision is a peaceful competition that brings together viewers across Europe and beyond to celebrate a shared love of music and culture. However, Israel’s participation in this competition has come under criticism. In the context of ongoing political tensions and military actions in the Middle East, particularly in the occupied Palestinian territories, many people are calling for justice and accountability from international organizations toward states that are internationally criticized for their human rights violations.

Israel’s participation in Eurovision, a contest that stands for the promotion of peace and understanding, could be perceived as tacit approval of these actions. The Eurovision Song Contest should serve as a platform that upholds universal values such as peace and human rights, and as such, it is irresponsible to allow a country to actively participate in this cultural phenomenon while simultaneously flouting international norms.

We demand that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) exclude Israel from participating in Eurovision until clear and verifiable progress is made regarding respect for human rights and the end of the occupation. This would send a strong signal that music and culture are not detached from moral and ethical obligations.

By standing together in support of this exclusion, we send a clear message that human rights should take precedence and that the cultural forums we value have a responsibility to take a stand against injustice.

Please sign this petition to stand up for justice and human rights.

I’m so tired of this. The idea is to unite in music and not to unite through not seeing someone there. Did Israel, the USA, the Hamas, etc. commit war crimes? Most likely (leaving it to the courts to rule that). And what do we gain by excluding Israeli artist from a music competition? Nothing but moving back into the comfort zone. The artist wouldn’t even be given a chance to criticize the own government.

No. Russia has for good reasons been sanctioned and monetary transfers can not and should not be done. I am not in favor of easing that financial restriction.

Many of us believe similar sanctions should be placed on the genocidal apartheid Israeli regime. So save us the sop story about uniting via music.

This is such an out of touch take. Governments pick the artists they send and Israel has been using Eurovision to send propaganda to promote their genocide. If the idea is to unite in music, then countries who use the competition to promote divisive ideologies shouldn’t be invited to participate

I’m not convinced that answering division with exclusion rather than dialog is a good idea. Claiming the artist promotes a genocide by the Israeli government not disagreeing with him is very steep. That supposed abuse of the tournament through propaganda needs more evidence in my eyes. And I wanna add: I don’t disagree that there have been genocidal statements coming from the Israeli government and other bodies involved in the conflict.

You would be giving them a stage for their politicsl ideas. There is no such thing as an unpoliticial eurovision song contest, as hard as some people try. Russia was banned, Israel should be too.

So was there any transport of political ideas this year? What if there isn’t? Wouldn’t, in that case, banning an artist do more damage than help?
