Seriously every other post, every sub seems like nothing but politics. It’s so boring and disgusting. What made reddit great at one time was the diversity of genres and depth. Lemmy is very shallow and politically motivated it seems. I have been here since the Reddit exodus. It’s always been this way.

Do different Lemmy servers have different content?

Are certain severs curated?

Where do I find the depth and deep subject matter.

Every time I see a politics news or comic or meme I block that community. It’s great my entire feed is fun stuff and cool art

If I’d do that, I could look at my feed weekly and scroll through it in 60min max.
Not too unhealthy but not what I want to use it for.

    • Enjoy hiding your head in the sand from the livestreamed genocide and imperialism going on in the world. In that regard, you are worse than the Germans ignorant of the Holocaust when it was happening…

I consider doom scrolling to be an unhealthy way to consume news and an ineffective tool for political change. Protests, strikes, and voting change politics. There is little to be gained by algorithmically filling my body with cortisol and adrenaline.

My head is not in the sand because I read apnews and reuters periodically.

I prefer for lemmy to be an enjoyable place to visit. If it was an endless feed of doom I would uninstall and read a book instead.

I also think it is the times we live in right now. The world is in shambles, not too weird everyone is very political motivated right now. Just wait untill times settle. Then you’ll see the political interest go way down again. But yeah. I am missing reddit on the sports forum part. There is dead.

Change your instance. A lot of the content you see will depend on the instance you are in. ML is notorious for politics and I’m leaving it at that.

But also keep in mind politics are an important part of life and it’s impossible to fully remove that. Especially with a tense political climate as it is right now.

You should probably start learning about politics. If you only start when the bombs drop on your head, it’s too late.

This! I also configured my client to hide posts with ~10 keywords (trump, ice, kills, etc), and my feed suddenly had a much more diverse set of topics. Usually there is a common keyword between topics you’d want to see less of; you just need to keep it in mind while you’re browsing so you can find it!

This. Fuck man this world is so spoiled by a long peace that people don’t fucking understand the stakes anymore.

Apparently we are rapidly approaching another period of time where just nicely begging people to take this shit seriously isn’t enough and we are going to have to kill a hundred million people or so for another generation can learn this same fucking lesson we’ve been repeating for some 40,000 years.

But no, Love Island is on, so feel free to ignore the incipient fascism bearing down on you and condemn your children to a world where that won’t be possible.

There is a degree of anount.
I’d say my Reddit subs are similarly set up to my Lemmy communities.
My feed is 80% (US) politics or (F)OSS politics even on stuff that is neither of them in the first place.
Reddit on the other hand was more like 20% potentially political, 75% random stuff like memes or niche sub posts and 5% political/story time subs.

Sadly the reddit feed became almost unusable. The r/sysadmin feed is atrocious.

because politics literally affect every aspect of life? i mean i know it can be tiring and it’s really depressing, i know on mastodon you can filter out posts but idk about lemmy/piefed, but politics will always be talked about and trying to avoid it entirely or saying “i dont do politics” is just ignorance

It’s especially tiring, but important to keep up with, when you have some asshole threatening the entire world.

There was a lot less political stuff when Biden was president.

I almost never see politics in my feed. But Lemmy itself was created by leftist communists, it was never built to be a politics free space

It takes manual curation if you want to avoid it

Everything is politics. The moment you think otherwise you become part of the problem.

Why is all of Lemmy politics?

Do you know why the Lemmy platform and the lemmy.ml instance were created in the first place?

Lemmy is very shallow and politically motivated it seems.

Politics is orthogonal to depth. The existence of shallow politics in no way suggests the absence of deep politics.

Lemmy (and other fediverse services) users are mostly here because we have some strong opinions about mainstream social media, and those opinions are tied closely to politics these days.

If we didn’t, we’d probably be on Reddit, xitter, Facebook, etc. instead.

And if you get a bunch of people with strong opinions about something together, there’s a good chance the conversation is going to go in that direction sooner or later.

And like others have said, everything is politics, basically every aspect of life can be tied to politics in some way.

And there is a lot of political stuff going on all around the world that everyone really should be concerned about and following, and there’s a lot to discuss about it.

And I get it, it can be exhausting. I definitely wish I lived in a world where I didn’t have to pay as much attention to politics as I do.

The best thing you can do is to be active in communities you want to see have more activity. If no one’s posting the kind of “non-political” content you want to see, be the person posting it, if you build it they will come. Be the change you want to see.

In general, all Lemmy servers have the same content as every other one because they’re federated. There are some cases where instances have defederated from each other, and admins have done bans and such that I think may change what content is available to you

Also you’re on .ml, which is a pretty explicitly political instance. I don’t know all the technical details but I’m also under the impression that the mods and admins there are pretty quick to bring their ban-hammer down hard on people who disagree with them, so that could potentially be having some effect of what you’re able to see, though things are certainly looking pretty political from over here on .world too.
