I made it as far as “making a decent living, not a huge asshole”.
Obviously, it would be nice to have more/be more, but I count just meeting keeping this up as a win.

I think the problem is that when a user deletes their own post, everyone else also loses access to the comments under that post.
According to the screenshot, the Lemmy 1.0 update should change it so that only the original post is deleted, but access to the comments is preserved.

Screenshot for the lazy, or who don’t want to/can’t see lemmy.ml threads.

To me, evil is when you know the thing you’re doing is morally wrong, you have the option to do anything else (including doing nothing at all) and you do it anyway.
I can make space for people who were trained on bad behavior.
I can make space for people doing the best they can in bad situations.
But I have met people who looked “normal” and could have easily not done the bad thing they were doing to someone else.
When you call them out, some will get defensive. They still have shame.
But the evil ones had this look like a child who knew they were getting away with something. And the something was hurting someone else.

When one person stops singing, the curse is passed to someone else, somewhere else in the world.
We just won’t realize until after the nuclear war, when there’s only two people left, passing the song back and forth until they are finally, mercifully taken by the radiation poisoning.

In battle, right?

This is the kind of unimportant but fascinating thing I wish we had a community for.
Just… hundreds of people around the world posting their breaker panels.

Does English have sufficiently scary words that are also etymologically correct?
A population being halvsied just doesn’t hit the same, you know?

This comment made me realize we don’t have sidewalks, either.
I haven’t seen a sidewalk outside of the nearest city in… years.
And if they have some kind of shared vision because of technology or telepathy, then make it hurt them them when one goes down.
Or make it make sense, like they have to spend a turn to contact the others, or they shout to alert other NPCs, but that just means there know there’s a threat in this general area, not “we now have magic GPS for the next five minutes, and then I guess it must have been the wind.”
Real-time games with an intentional omission of a pause feature.
Agreed. I can understand in MMOs, but if I’m the only one playing, the game should stop when I say stop.
At least make it an option in the accessibility settings if it’s not “the developers’ intended experience”.

TL;dr: Don’t try to gaslight me and we’re good.
Good ‘Meh’ clickbait

Bad clickbait
Title: She hates him!
Video: She says she didn’t like that one thing he said, but it doesn’t change how she feels about him as a person.
Bad clickbait
Title: She hates him!
Video: Editor stitches together unrelated events to make it look like she said she hates him.

This one could’ve stayed in the shower.

have some respect for your beliefs and agree that you are right.
That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t question/interrogate them.
If you are the light, if your enemies are darkness, then there’s nothing that you cannot justify.
History is full of people who’ve done horrible things because they were convinced of the Righteousness of their cause.
*points in MAGA’s general direction*
I show up to my local protests and do firearms training (just in case,) but that doesn’t mean I’m going stop thinking about where the line should be drawn.

I generally agree, but how is that different from Jan 6?
That was 2,000 people showing up on Congress’ doorstep to do damage.
I’m don’t mind being a hypocrite when it’s for the working class, but I hope we have a better argument than “it’s good when my team does it.”

I would tell you what courage means if I thought it might help you.
Someone offers a counterpoint and your first impulse is to insult?

Counterpoint: People need to eat and pay rent, and those things don’t go away just because you’re protesting the latest bullshit the government is up to.
