  • DISCLAIMER: I post this as food for thought, not to take it as fact. It’s only one person who said this, and this psychologist also did not seem to differentiate between primary and secondary psychopaths, which I’d consider a pretty strong red flag.

A clinical psychologist touched a bit on this in this, I think in this video.
Basically claiming that at the core of psychopathy there is (somewhat paradoxically) fear. They learned that genuine connection, love, etc. doesn’t work to provide safety (or, considering the science of primary psychopaths, that they are genetically tuned that way). So the alternative, or one of them is controlling people. Similarly, sadism can be seen as the pain in other people that are validation of one’s control and therefore safety.

Of course this often completely backfires, because pushing people far enough can make them more unpredictable too, etc. Not to mention how utterly destructive it is.

  • Fascism supersedes AI in all aspects here, imo.
For example, fuck whatever AI is doing if your art is publicly funded, or you can live on UBI because humanity progressed towards truthful discoveries rather than the multi-billion dollar complex that keeps the rich & powerful where they are.

If AI would be in the hands of the people at large, this technology would in many ways not be causing so much trouble.
But as we are entering into increasingly more fascist territory in the west, that means little hope for effective controls. If anything the interest to use it to aid oppressing those that fascism intends to oppress fits more in line.

It means legal, financial and other freedoms are limited as people are to be sucked dry and controlled and not get any dangerous ideas. So not a whole lot of freedom around creating arts and/or creating thoughtful stuff. Wanna hang out with that interesting non-obeying person, hm Social Score? How’s the art scene and all those great writers in North Korea? Wanna philosophize about the creation of Israel, genocide and moral duty, publicly in Germany?

So that great craftsmanship you speak of, might require resources and ideas that will not be permitted in that combination in the future.

  • The defense with the feet I got from someone who had to defend themselves multiple times. I don’t remember the details, but it’s about the easier way to keep distance from their mouth without it biting onto anything… idk. I’d say, check some youtube videos or other resources of people who talk from experience. :)

I think another important reason is to keep the face away. If you were to use your fists, you’d have to lean forward, bringing your face closer to their mouth. You’re also not allowing them to bite anywhere, like your legs. Of course, much like a knife fight, you don’t wanna be in this situation in the first place.

The palm thing, if you’re already doing a lot of other things right, it probably doesn’t matter much. But I find it signals more intent that you mean no harm. And by the time they come that close to you, I don’t see them attacking you, like ever. And if they were to show hostile behaviour beforehand, you have time to change your hand position and stand up.

  • Stray dogs:
If you pass somewhere and there are suddenly stray dogs in your way, just squat down and show your hands. Hands down, palms up. If they come to sniff and shit, keep your palms below their face. Basically let them come to you. When they trust you, you can pat the top of the head. But patting the top of the head before they know you can be dangerous, as you might use them to hit them, for example.

Usually within seconds the whole pack comes to get some love :)

I’ve never been attacked by a dog this way. But if a dog would come at me, actually aggressive and not slow down, I hear you should use your feet to defend yourself.

Don’t just walk through their territory.

  • Sorry, hard disagree.

I also don’t want to argue. So feel free to say what you like about this, but I won’t respond. I’ll just drop some thoughts for consideration.

    1. Cults don’t have to be religious, and even then there’s a difference
    2. Harm doesn’t just come from being militant or political
    3. The mechanisms of disbanding suck as much as the criminal justice system and states in general do
    4. This isn’t just about the US

Jehovas Witnesses, Moonies, Scientology and so many more are still ongoing. Cult mechanism are literally some of closest stuff to brainwashing there is. They are malign. The followers are victims, and collectively this absolutely should be addressed.

Also, I am not offering any kind of solution here, I.e. to just go after the cults and disband them. As others have said it’s nuanced.

  • The dumbest game I’ve ever played. Escaped into it as a kid on release and got addicted. Sure the initial journey to 60 was pretty magical. It was my first mmo, and I had played WC3 a lot before.

But my god, the dunning krueger effect, the toxicity, the community. Just terrible imo. And of course the utter unfulfilling time sink.
I’ve also been quite a competitive gamer, having played a lot of cs, dota and wc3 ladder, some semi-professionally. And WoW is simply not it.

I learned how evil Blizzard is, how addicted I can get to certain games, etc. yeah, the one word that comes to mind looking back at it is “stupid”.
