Ah, I can see how shelving limits could cause problems. Most libraries I’ve gone to only fill each shelf about 3/4 full to account for that. Thanks for the insights!

This is essentially the same as in the US. But one question
When you bring it back, you scan the book again and leave it on the shelf by the returns scanner. Because the book was removed from the inventory, it wont have a place on a shelf yet.
Do you not have a classification system that determines where a book should reside? US libraries (and others, I presume) use the Dewey Decimal System, which groups books into categories and such, and then finally alphabetically by author. So every book would have a general place to go, and then the specific place would be determined by the author’s last name.

DHS says 8 US citizens among 9 arrested
8 is not “among” 9!
Anytime this topic comes up, I reshare this blog post. With things being “that bad” over a decade ago, I can’t imagine how much worse it’s gotten.

…he committed suicide. In a weird twist of fate, he overdosed on Tylenol.
OD’ing on Tylenol is a fucking terrible way to go.

Vague recollection of Rodney King & the LA Riots. After that would be the Northridge earthquake, because it woke me up.

Our patchwork of state laws makes it a clusterfuck. Also, even if employees should have protected time, it doesn’t prevent a shitty boss from using it as a pretext to fire you for something else that isn’t protected.

My woodshop class was before the sawstop came out. We had fairly open access to everything, but we just weren’t allowed to use the table saw. All cuts were done by the teacher.

I don’t know if any other machine comes close to a table saw for demanding my respect and full attention.
While not used nearly as often, a lathe can take a lot more than a finger.

Yeah, I typically use 1996 (unlikely to remember 9/11) to 2015 (in school for the pandemic).

Stephen Miller is a white supremacist.
We knew this, but the video is really well done and I just wanted to make sure it gets widely shared.

They desperately want people to riot so they have a “legitimate” reason to declare martial law, suspend more rights, cancel the elections, etc…

Mostly lurk, so unlikely. Changing domains when lemm.ee closed down doesn’t help, either.

Hinga dinga durgin!
Eh, I think that his 2nd term kind of helps validate that view of his 1st. Because he was a political newbie, he allowed those around him to help make staffing decisions, so you got mostly run of the mill Republicans. Terrible, certainly, but not sycophants. That’s all out the window this time. Key positions are filled based solely on either fealty to the mad king or ✨campaign contributions✨ (bribes). Anyone who dares speak out gets the axe, and at least for now it’s a metaphorical one.

“Broad listening” sounds like a system ripe to be exploited by very loud but minority voices…

All these replies and you’re the only one to mention the apps. It’s absolutely one of the reasons why (beyond them using “inflation” to cover for straight greed).
By jacking their prices way up, and only offering discounts via their apps, they win either way - You pay ridiculous amounts, or you pay slightly less ridiculous amounts and they get your data.
Work for a Fortune 500, ~$100b company. Still understaffed. The greed never ceases.
