I think the claim is supposed to be that the parts of it that makes Israel look bad are what’s fake. Like the proof of them bombing civilians, or of their soldiers having called shot sniping contests on literal fucking kids. She seems to be claiming that we’re seeing fake videos that are showing Israel killing civilians rather than the dangerous Hamas militants they are and it’s brainwashing us into being anti-Israel.

Short version, Wife’s granddad was an old racist. Old racist granddad made wife mad. Old racist granddad wanted to impress some people. Wife casually asked old racist granddad about some super old super racist terms he said to her in front of said people to embarrass him in front of them.

From what I can gather it’s like a super old racist term for a black person. idk if I’d call it a full on slur, but definitely in that ballpark. But either way we’re talking like 1920s old. Like this term was at least 75 when my wife did this to her grandfather in 2000.

My wife basically did this to her racist grandpa one time. I think they were having dinner with friends and she goes “Gwampa, I have a question, is a ‘Jive-Ass Jigaboo’ the same thing as a ‘Jungle Bunny’?”
It did not go over well with her grandpa’s friends lmao.
Edit: My wife wanted me to add because I didn’t mention it originally that she was 15 when she did this. So she was 100% aware of the live grenade she was lobbing into this conversation. I was also misremembering a little of the context these people weren’t friends they were people related to her grandpa’s labor union basically he was trying to impress and really laying it on thick. One of whom was a black man. Hence it being this particular live grenade.

Wait, are you telling me that wasn’t a shitpost? That couldn’t have actually been real. Please tell me this timeline has not actually gotten this stupid.

Free will was a mistakeis such a wondrous thing.

Fair, “typically” have experience then?

Still not as visceral of a reaction as the one I had to a dude using a speculum for the same thing and I don’t even have the proper equipment to have experience with one of those.
Or maybe they’re step siblings?

If Mamdani had walked back any of his criticisms of Trump I’d agree, but he didn’t. Don’t get me wrong, I feel you. We’ve been burned. But I don’t think this is Mamdani burning us.

Didn’t he like specifically take over managing what productions happened at the Kennedy Center or whatever to have them do his preferred musicals? Or am I tripping? i swear I remember something like that happening.

idk, it’s hard to say at the end of the day what is real belief and what is playing politics. Personally with what I’m seeing if a right leaning think tank like the Manhattan Institute is mad about what you’re saying about Cuba and Venezuela then you’re probably on the right track even if you did call them “dictatorships” in a later statement.
I absolutely feel being burned. I’ve been very disappointed in some of my more progressive officials in government lately. But right now IMO he’s given no real tangible reason I’ve seen beyond things that have been said to doubt him. Until that point I’m willing to believe that the no condemnation interview version is the “real belief” and the “they’re dictators” statement is a placating bit of politics playing after having said the important part first.

idk, from what I can find he only issued the statement calling them dictators after answering questions about those countries talking about the horrible things the US has done to them like the embargo on Cuba and the extrajudicial killings of Venezuelans Trump’s been doing in which he didn’t directly call them that.
I could definitely be reading too much into it, but it feels kinda like he’s effectively saying “yeah, they’re dictators because the US keeps interfering in their affairs”

Musicals too right?

I’ve been seeing a bunch of people saying that he’s not really anti-Zionist because he says Israel has a right to exist “as a state with equal rights” rather than saying they don’t have a right to exist and that he’s not actually a Lefty because he isn’t making like huge sweeping promises before even getting into office officially.
It honestly just sounds like more “Holier Than Thou, I’m The Better Leftist” LARP that the Online Left seems to love engaging in.
Edit: Oh and people taking him talking about the talks he’s had with Jewish New Yorkers about the whole “Globalize Intifada” smear the wrong way. I guess some have taken it as him capitulating to the Zionists when I guess to me it sounds more like he’s just saying that he understands that he had a different view on what those words meant than other people apparently did not that he’s changing his views or anything.
I’m not saying that he said it was all a joke. I’m saying that the possibility of it all being a joke would be the Least Funny Timeline and that I hope we don’t live in the Least Funny Timeline.

It is a lot different nowadays. Generally speaking yes, it’s still considered a dick move to just out someone before they’re ready. But that’s not what this is. In this case it’s less about the “Being Gay” as it is about Grindr generally being something these conservative family members are doing behind their wives’ backs while also being openly homophobic.

idk, this might just be me being ace and not understanding the tribulations of people that actually have a desire to have sex. But as a trans person who has been in the closet, I can’t imagine going on Grindr if I was gay but still living with conservative parents and closeted. That feels like a risk I’d be way too scared to take.
I’m also always down to use my experience being closeted against bigots. As has at least 90% of gay men I’ve known. Like yeah, making my identity/sexuality The Joke feels bad. But I feel like when that joke is being played specifically on a bigot a lot of us get a lot of catharsis from it. Cuz at that point the joke isn’t “Being gay is bad” it’s “Welcome to the family cousin Jed” and the punchline is their freaking out about it.
idk I’m kinda rambling now. I just feel like it’s different because in a lot of these cases it is the queer kids that were closeted and made fun of that are saying “Wouldn’t it be funny if we turned it around on them for once?”
Plot twist: The 72 are all other incels like them.
