    Well it started with the initial abolisment of the Fairness doctrine by the FCC in '87.

    While the fairness doctrine was not perfect, removing it and not replacing it with anything allowed the news in the US to become the billionaire funded captured propaganda machines that they are today.

      It was a product of its time, when there were just three broadcast television networks. It made less sense with the rise of cable and now internet streaming.

      Several news outlets are considered generally reliable (AP, Reuters) but people insist on lumping everything in as “media”. It’s lazy.
