They gave POE cameras that will just work with an Ethernet cable (although they gave weird POE requirements). Their USB powered ones are wifi connected.

I have a dedicated IOT ssid and vlan (when my Orbi goes, I don’t know what I’ll replace it with…).

Each wifi node on that ssid is in client isolation mode and I carefully monitor where outbound traffic from that segment is headed.

It’s a lot of work, but it makes me feel slightly better about a thermostat, self-hosted security camera setup, and home assistant setup.

Okay, so having done some data center work in my time - how are you going to have robots do things like rack and plug in servers? Troubleshoot physical motherboards for issues?

Most DCs I’ve worked in are packed to the hills with racks, not many were standardized or logically laid out. If zuck wants to have his data centers built from the ground up with robots in mind, maybe this could work. But dumping them in existing places would be super challenging.

You could either set up DNS overrides on your inwards facing DNS server, leaving external resolution to something like cloudflare (with DDNS), or you have a second internal domain for internal resolution.

I chose the latter for my homelab - it’s service.lan.fqdn inside and service.fqdn on the outside. Since I use a wildcard cert, it’s still protected with TLS if I access it internally or externally.

Edit: this also solves hair pinning as your internal resolution will go to your LAN network, not your public IP

For me, I have multiple OIDC compatible systems (Proxmox, Netbox, Synology, Zabbix, Vault, etc).

So keycloak offers a SSO option to make my life easier with a single account to worry about instead of individual ones.

Plus MFA because it’s cool?
