There is no clear way to get the toast out without using a conductive implement like a fork or your finger.
We’ve been to the Moon ffs
Edit: Woah seems Lemmy really likes this kind of casual post
Way back in 1910… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toaster#Toaster_oven
It’s actually a really simple solution, on a better toaster you can push the lever up and pop your food out to easily grab it
Every manual toaster I’ve had allows you to pull it up manually
But somehow my current toaster needed to be electronic with buttons and an LED readout, and a motor instead of a spring. There’s no manual release, just stick a knife in and try not to electrocute yourself.
However it also has lasted far longer than any other toaster I’ve had, so ……
That bandle that you push down? Push it UP instead. This is a solved problem.
Not on this toaster
We have, most toasters let you lift the lever higher to get it out.
Mine only does it by like 10%. It must be a bad make
Get a better toaster or a toaster oven with a sliding tray.
Toaster Oven for life!
Do those really work? I don’t have a need or counter space for the “oven”, and the toaster needs to toast bread. Are those as fast and do they toast as well as the more specialized appliance?
The last thing I need is to take up more counter space. To the contrary, I am considering getting rid of my air fryer. The air fryer has worked really well, so well that I got an oven with that functionality. It would be tough to convince me to take up more counter space
Edit: then again, the internet claims an air fryer is effective at toast
My toaster over has a “toast” button that makes it really convenient to use, but it really pays off when cooking other meals. It’s mostly replaced my old toaster and my big oven. If I only wanted toast I would settle for a good toaster to save space.
You have to master the art of the toss. Push the lever hard and then catch it while its in the air.
Bread-jitsu it is
Will breakfast?
Skillcheck first.
To be fair. The bread in there looks tiny. So not surprising it only raises it a little
Yeah, the loaf was blob shaped and these were the ends
Edit: it’s this weird sour rye bread that I don’t actually really like

Bauernbrot
Indeed. Although over here they call it Šumavský chléb
My favourite is when a toaster with the lift function raises to a high point that’s lower than the high point on one without the lift.
Or that time I went through every display toaster in the store to get the one that lifted the highest, then when I bought one and took it home the one in the box only lifted to a high point an inch lower than the display model.
Tell your servant to reach in and pull out the toast.

Those lazy bastards! You’re right, mine managed to trick me into thinking I must pull it out myself… No supper tonight!
When my toast gets stuck like that, I just pour my beans directly into the toaster and eat it all like cereal
Yea, worst fleshlight ever.
Nah, can’t beat 2 holes
Not to mention the warmth
Push it down then up real fast and then catch the toast as it flies out.
Thank you
Wait, that’s actually what worked?
Not today but you made me remember I’ve seen others do it. With the correct toaster of course
It sounds like a shitpost but it works
Most toasters you can lift the pushy-downy-handle up a bit more than it rests at to lift the toast out.
My big problem is that (in the UK at least, don’t know about other nations) the standard sized bread doesn’t fit fully in a toaster, so the top ~3cm is still bread.
Haha this is hilarious. I occasionally try to toast differently shaped bread, but sliced bread is very consistently shaped so never a problem.
Do other countries do bread differently ? Is this just another example of American cultural imperialism? “No baguettes for you!”
Same here (krautland). My brain is not adaptable to accepting this 10% less toast
Wooden chopstick(s)
Or plastic I guess, but mine are wooden
Yeah. Chopsticks are the answer.
That’s really clever. I even have a couple of pairs
We have a set of bamboo tongs for this. Works like a charm
We have… I’m more impressed that you found a toaster that doesn’t. I don’t think I’ve had a toaster in the last ten years that didn’t give a little bit of leeway on the lever to let you pull up a little bit more to be able to grab it.
Rapidly push the lever up to eject your toast and grab it midair. Works 95% of the time

Fill it with oil*, now you’ve got a deep fryer!
*
Please don’t.
WOAH. I don’t think I could afford that unfortunately
So if your toast isn’t taller than those sides, can you open it sideways or something? Remember those bars are scorching hot.
There is absolutely a Technology Connections about this.
