No thanks. I have 1000 hours in OW, but I’ve moved on.

Did this guy live under a rock?
I’m still grateful that Blizzard did the Overwatch free weekend so I could determine for myself that it sucks ass.
why does this game ask for my phone no. to play?
Because it’s free to play and it’s supposed to be a deterrent to smurfing.
man, games are taken so seriously these days that they resort to smurfing.
It’s been that way for a long time. The term smurfing, I think, originated with Warcraft II.
It was an a****** dude that no one wanted to play against in high-ranking ladders because everyone knew his name because he was a f****** a******.
So he made two accounts. One called Papa Smurf and the other smurfette. Then proceeded to s*** on low-ranking. Players made fun of them and was he general a****** till everyone learned those names and started avoiding him as well.
Smurfing since its inception has been fundamentally something only assholes do where this whole purpose of being an a******.
Ranked systems only work if everybody only has one account. It’s also why most games restrict you to only one account for ranked purposes.
If you can’t be assed to cuss, stop using the words. All you are doing is making it harder to read what you are saying, and making yourself look like a child who will get in trouble for cussing. We aren’t on YouTube or whatever, you won’t have your content surpressed because you offended the advertisers delicate sensabilities.
Sorry, that rant was only half directed at you. I’m just frustrated at a world where using bad words is considered worse than literal nazi shit.
The games I played didn’t have ranking. It was better.
Activision does that with all their games now.
It’s the reason I won’t buy a new COD game.
I hate that shit. But there is actually a reason for. It’s part of their ongoing battle against cheaters or bad actors, as the game is free to play.
Blizzard openly admitting that they scammed players into buying Overwatch 1 twice:
These look like generic Chinese-overwatch characters.
Overwatch is close to being a decade old btw.
It’s so unfortunate what they did to Overwatch, wonder how Jeff Kaplan and the original Team feels about all that.
IIRC he just washed his hands and moved on from it, which probably was the right call given the Acti-Blizz merger and Microsoft buyout.
“Microslop”
As great as Jeff was, he’s the one that did all the stuff to Overwatch.
As far as I’ve heard/read he was never really interested in making a PVP game, he wanted to make Titan, the MMO. Then he got another chance with OW2 and the PVE mode, and even got an offer to make a separate dev team that would focus on PVP, so he could put his all into PVE, but declined, so the game was left to die (even though it never really died). Then PVE in OW2 was a bust again and he left.
Oh, I have never heard of that. Also forgot that he was still around when OW2 launched. Still believe it sucks big time to see a project go down this route especially after being such a big success. It might not be dead, but it definitely is just a shell of its past.
I think I actually took psychic damage reading that. Just… why.
I hatwcwhen guess try to add too many characters
Earlier on, it felt like I could competently play all characters and, when i saw another in the field, knew what to expect from them
Now, I feel like constantly learning new characters is a chore at best
This is salt in the wound for my friends who miss launch Overwatch.
I’m right there with you. I think the hamster was the last new hero I played with.
Those were good times.
Now they’re adding a cat with a jetpack, which I would love if they gave her a better name than Jetpack Cat.
Jetpack Cat was the original name of the cat though. It’s a tough corner they’ve backed themselves into there.
It was originally the model for Pharah, before they decided (Jeff Kaplan) that it should be more serious and not include actual animals in it (you have Winston, but he talks and acts like a human).
So they reworked the Jetpack Cat into Pharah and released her as the daughter of Ana.
Jetpack Cat is owned by Brigetta and is one of her emotes that she picks it up and cuddles it.
If they had named it anything else, it would have ruined the 10 years of lore they built up around it, so I understand why they did it.
The issue for me is that it’s a support character.
I mean, to be clear, I never liked Overwatch. Back when it was new, my friends were so into it that playing it with them was the only way we’d spend any time together. They’re the ones who miss that launch game, lol.
I’m right there with you. I miss having 6v6 with like half the characters they have now (so I can actually learn them all), with Jeff Kaplan keeping me excited to play. What a fun time that was.
Isnt every sequel “just the previous thing again?”
Sequels are meant to be drastic improvements from the first game. Like everything. Visuals, story continuation, character development, new mechanics and features .etc
Not good sequels, no.
IMO, a good sequel doesnt have to change too much to be good, and is usually close enough to be called “more of the same.”.
A good sequel is good because of its similarities to the first. Otherwise you end up with Zelda 2, which is widely regarded as the worst of the Zelda games because it changed so much (outside of a small but very vocal minority that liked it). Many movie sequels also try to change too much and end up suffering because of it. Return to Oz was an interesting movie, but I wouldn’t ever call it as good as the original. Aliens and Terminator 2 are both similar enough to their respective originals while still having minor tweaks that led to a good follow up.
So in the sense of a sequel, Overwatch 2 isn’t the worst, but I think it changed too much from the original and suffers because of it. And Blizzards decision to overwrite the original obviously plays a big part in many people’s dislike of the game.
It should be more of the same, but not “exactly the same or a little worse,” like OW2 is to OW1. It’s the EXACT same game, but with fewer features.
Final Fantasy is a decent example. They’re all more of the same gameplay, while having totally different and non-connected worlds/stories/characters (up until 10-2’s release, anyway).
Well I suppose thats kinda my point. The headline here is really bad. I understand what they are trying to get at, but they chose to word it pretty poorly.
Quake and Quake 2 would like a word.
Diablo and Diablo 2 entered the chat.
I love both (personally like Quake 2 better) and consider Quake 2 to be “Quake 1 again.”
Though the visual tone of the game changed, it was still a fast paced action shooter with an identity that was different enough from Doom to be called “just Doom again.” Many improvements were made, but at its core it still felt like Quake. It didn’t feel like I was suddenly playing Mario, or even another shooter at the time like Turok, Heretic/Hexen, or GoldenEye.
I guess I am trying to say I understand what the headline is trying to say, but it doesn’t really do that good of a job.
Headline is a poor attempt at saying they are renaming it to just ‘Overwatch’ without the 2.
That is how I read it, what else could it mean?
That the game “overwatch 2” is just a re-hash of the original “overwatch” game - not that it was renamed to be “overwatch”
I also had a hard time reading the post title, still think it’s idiotic, but now it makes more sense to me. I couldn’t understand what the original post title was trying to say.
Being a rehash/continuation of the same game was the case since Overwatch 2 came out as they dropped the PvE plans, so it wouldn’t be news.
Right, which is why I thought it was weird there was an article being published about it and assumed it was untimely drivel since the game was released in 2022. Again, it didn’t make sense to me as posted and I had to click into the article to sort it out.
All that to say, it wasn’t abundantly clear to me just based on the title of the post.
It could mean “It’s just the same old shit but with 5 new heroes next week”
It’s this new trend of making a confusing headline so people click it for clarification.
Overwatch 2 isn’t ‘Overwatch again’ until its copies are disabled and replaced with Overwatch 3, which has the monetisation model of Overwatch 2 made free. 1 was the cost of the game, 2 would be premium skins I guess
There used to be an r/EmreMains when the name first appeared in lore. That must have been almost 5 years ago, and now they’ve finally released the hero. I don’t know what they expected, but I’d figure that almost everyone who was there previously has moved on, I certainly have.
just play TF2 or marvel rivals at this point
I play Marvel Rivals almost every day. Compared to Overwatch, it’s more casual and fun oriented, not that balanced at all. And its in third person, not first person. While Rivals has some Overwatch energy and can be played as a replacement, it is not a full replacement. And no other of these games will probably reach peak Overwatch and does not have the same charm.
BTW I recently installed Team Fortress 2 Classified, a mod that got its own Steam store page. It has lot of stuff from early TF2 days recreated and looks very interesting. Still need to try it out.

ohhh yeah i forgot

Yeah fair enough

i think its also Team Fortress classic and maybe scraped tf2 features aswell
TF2 is a different game and Rivals is definitely not as good in areas that matter like gameplay and maps
